To get back to the original question I think you'd have to replace the whole headlamp unit as the back part of the casing is different to accomodate the HID bulb housing and the attachment of the ballast packs.

To be honest I would stick with the halogens and put in some decent bulbs (the Osram 65w special service ones are excellent if not 100% road legal but used by many motorcyclists and pass an MOT no problem) as although the HID ones are better I think they are rather overated given their broken adjuster and chrome peeling problems which you will very likely encounter with second hand units. Before anyone points out that I must have cloudy old lenses on my HID's to not think of them as gods wonderful gift to Omega's I have a brand new pair of HID headlamps fitted 2 weeks ago. I just don't honestly think that the improvement is worth the cost and hastle.

Unless you really must have HID lamps and have a big fat wallet I would stick with you Halogens, save your money and fit some decent bulbs as below  ;)

Have a look at this thread on Vxon it should explain the likely cause of your problem.

You think I didn't shop around  :o Believe you me I tried.
As far as I'm aware nobody has these lamps in stock on the shelf in the UK they have to be ordered in on a special order from the parts warehouse in Germany (but are at least available). Hence there are no special deals  :(. The best I could do was the standardish trade price and American Leyland have now managed to supply me with a working second unit to replace the new lamp with the bust adjuster. If your lucky enough to have a facelift model then the situation is much better but for mini facelift your pretty much stuffed.

You were really lucky to get a pair when you did but most of the Omega's expensive spares now have to be special ordered. At least most items are at the moment still available.  :)

You cant get away with that now not with plastic lenses too much heat.

Actually Andy I thought the lights on the Senator B weren't that bad the main beam had two halogen bulbs per lamp and was better then the one bulb job on the Omega. Dipped wasn't brilliant though.

The Senator A if I remember correctly had two dipped beam and two main beam halogen bulbs per lamp (just like the Monza) and was pretty good (very good in its day).

Best of all though the lights were glass and not the sub standard plastic rubbish we have now.    :)

Well actually I consider it a GM Europe issue Vauxhall is merely a UK brand name and the item came from their (GM Europe's) parts warehouse in Germany.

Total retail price is £148 +Vat = £177.60 each

That is for the basic plastic shell with no bulbs or fittings.

And it seems you still dont get a working adjuster  :y

Thats a very good point they were very well packed but there was nothing to stop the lens slapping about inside on the ball joints. All that they would have had to do is hold the lens in place with a packing socket that plugs into where the lift motor goes. Alternatively supply the lamps with motors fitted.

Its the British Leyland style indifference thats the most annoying. It'll kill them in the end once the German bailout money runs out.

Having messed around with a couple of pairs of second hand headlamps in order to repair the adjusters with the excellent aluminium repair kit I was rather thwarted by the joke chroming on the reflectors. Out of 4 headlamps (2 pairs) everyone had some evidence of peeling (one quite bad). Well in the end as I had not paid very much for them (99p for one pair) I decided to bite the bullet and order a shiney new set from dear old Mr Vauxhall (after all GM is bust and they need the money :) ).

Items ordered and on back order to Germany (no surprise there really).
Today items finally arrive two shiney new Xenon projector headlights in nice sealed boxes straight from the GM Europe parts warehouse in Russelhiem.

Open boxes admire contents for a couple of minutes then realise that the nearside lamp has a broken adjuster (just like the one on my car)  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

You just couldn't make it up brand spanking new headlamp and the adjuster is already busted  :o :o :o :o

I can now understand why they call GM American Leyland  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Item now on back order again  >:( >:( >:( >:(

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Worse still they tried to tell me that the price is now going up and I think they were expecting me to pay the difference in price for a replacement item  :D :D :D :D

Do these clowns really expect to be in business making cars in 10 years time?  :D :D :D :D

I give up I really do  :'(

Is your car fitted with HID Xenon projectors or the lookalike Halogen versions? Difficult to help you any further without any information  :-X

Try swaping the motor from the good lamp and fitting it into the lamp that isn't working (same motor used on either side). The motors are different on a Vectra.

Fix the motor first and see if the fault clears. If it doesn't you may have a problem on the actual level sensor (if HID) but as I still dont know exactly what kind of headlamps you actually have further explanation is pointless. Do one thing at a time in logical order the motor is very easy to replaced and quite cheap second hand (at least here in the UK).

We need a little more information to help you out. Can you confirm that your headlamp is a projector Xenon as the term Xenon seems to be applied to just about anything these days. If it is try swaping the bulbs over between the working one and the non working unit. If it still doesn't work then the likely culprit is the ballast pack (the small steel box under the lamp) used to up the voltage in order for the bulb to ignite. All the bits are readily available second hand from ebay or breakers yards. I'm not sure were you are your name suggests you may be in Poland.

As far as I am aware the Vectra uses a different lift motor but there is plenty second hand Omega ones available. Be careful with the high voltages on the ballast units.

No Andy there difinitely not cheap and I had never heard of them but this lightening guru chap states they are the only non standard halogen bulb he would recommend on account of the fact that for a very slight increase in power consumption they offer a fantastic 2100 lumens output with a service life similar to a standard bulb and far longer then Osrams nightbreaker version. I expect I've opened a right can of worms here and started another long bulb tread  ;D

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlamp bulb question
« on: 13 March 2011, 11:10:31 »
I was reading through a load of information on a very informative US car lighting website run by a chap called Daniel Stern. He goes very thoroughly through pretty much every type of major brand bulb on the market rubbishing many (mainly the ones with a blue tint) but highly recomments a slightly hibred Osram 65w bulb which uses an H9 filament on a H7 base. Mr Stern points out that this bulb is not strictly road legal but makes the point that it is presently the most efficient H7 bulb on the market and does go into quite a lot of technicle detail. I just wondered if anyone had ever tried and fitted a pair of these things as a high beam bulb to go alongside HIDs. It appears it is a rather popular upgrade on non HID Passats and BMW's. I would be interested in anyones comments or experiences and have pasted a link to a UK supplier purely for illustration.
