Omega General Help / Squeek
« on: 27 September 2009, 20:24:31 »
Driving with the windows down, I hear a squeak as I am driving.
It matches the speed of the car so is obviously drive train related.

Today, up she went on the axle stands. Can I find the damn squeak.

NO I CAN'T  ::) ::) ::)

What could it be ?????  ;D :y

Omega General Help / Brake Lamp
« on: 23 July 2009, 17:05:54 »
The high level brake light has decided to part company with the rear window.

It hangs down about half an inch so when I brake at night the car floods with red light  ::)

I have tried 'Superglue' and double sided carpet tape but it still drops down again after a few days.

What would be the best thing to keep it in place?  :y :y

Omega General Help / Steering judder
« on: 21 July 2009, 18:10:28 »
When turning left or right, forwards and reverse, at slow speed I get a little resistance through the steering wheel.

It feels like it is holding back for a split second then turns, then holds back, then turns.

It requires no more effort to turn the wheel, it just isn't smooth.

The fluid is okay (nice and red) and to the correct level but I don't know when it was last changed if ever. There are no leaks in the system.

Any ideas folks  :y :y

Omega General Help / Brake question
« on: 01 July 2009, 16:16:53 »
I reverse off my drive touch the brake to stop. "Click" the brakes go.
Then drive off and stop at the end of the street. "Click" the brakes go.

Is this the anti-rattle springs failing? (stupid question I know ::))

Omega General Help / Passenger Seat Backrest
« on: 06 May 2009, 20:30:45 »
Does anybody know how to adjust the backrest so it sits nearer vertical?

Using the knurled knob it winds down to lay flatish but when wound the other way it stops about 10deg before the vertical.

Need it to sit up more for SWMBO  :y :y

If I pull the lever at the top of the seat it does go forwards as it should but SWMBO says it hurts her back  ;D ;D

Omega General Help / Passenger Seat
« on: 30 April 2009, 23:21:05 »
Before I start pulling the seat apart. Can any body tell me how much adjustment is available in the back rests forward and backwards movement.
It is adjusted manually, not via electrics.
Mine will lay down but when wound back up doesn't quite reach vertical.

The drivers one winds forward and almost touches the steering wheel.

Incidentally, why does the passenger seat have a lever release at the top to tilt the backrest forward like in a two door ?  ;D

Thanks guys  :y :y :y

Omega General Help / Mystery noise. Not Wheelbearing.........
« on: 24 April 2009, 10:50:58 »
Posted earlier about an odd noise from the rear. From my initial post I led people on OOF to point towards a wheel bearing fault. It seems this is not the case............

Just to recap, the rumbling grating only appears when turning left at slow speeds with the engine under load (i.e. not coasting).
During high speed left hand cornering and in a straight line the noise is not present.
It can make the noise when sat stationary in 'D' and I blip the throttle.
It also seems to come more from the centre/rear of the car. Sound does travel I know.

I have had the wheels laser aligned and balanced to put them out of the equation.

I am having trouble remembering when I first heard this noise but, to list what I have done may help.

I have replaced the rear springs which of course involved dropping the rear diff etc
I have replaced the gearbox which involved removing the cat sections
The gearbox has fresh Dex III in and the diff has fresh EP 90 in it.

I am quite confident though that it was fine before I changed the box and the springs. But it may have been there before and i just didn't notice.

I have now had it though three garages including Vx  ::) and they all give me different opinions leaving me rather confused  ::) ::)

If any one has come across this before could you point me in the right direction.  :y :y

Thanks in advance guys and gals  :y :y :y :y

Omega General Help / Rumbling rear end
« on: 17 April 2009, 17:40:06 »
When cornering left or right and powering out of a corner (ie not coasting) I get a rumble from the rear end of the car.
The noise is more noticable when towing the tin tent.  ::)

In a straight line, we have the usual Omega silent running (well, almost  ;D)

Anyone come across this before or have any ideas ??  :y :y

Omega General Help / AR25 now AR35 and the problem remains...
« on: 04 April 2009, 21:29:23 »
I got a 'new' AR35 box from a trusted breaker on OOF.
Drained the oil, fitted a new filter, set the clutch.
Removed old AR25 and fitted AR35. A hard but enjoyable job.
Filled correctly with Fuchs Dex II.

Now, the 'new' box is behaving just like the old box but not as harshly.

It holds second gear and thumps into third with a jerk.

This seems too much of a coincedence. Can anybody think of a common fault which may cause this ?

I really don't want to rip another gearbox out this year  ::) ::) :y :y

Omega General Help / AR35 and Sonnex Washer Fitting
« on: 31 March 2009, 20:34:03 »
As you can guess, I am sorting the end float on the gearbox  :)

Need a bit of help. ::)

I am presuming the end float is the movement of the inner shaft against the outer shaft in an up and down movement (with bell housing facing upwards) :y

To measure this I am pencil marking inner shaft and using a feeler gauge am measuring movement.......

Without any packing washers, the inner shaft rotates easily by hand. If I pack the washer up (1.5mm) and torque down correctly, I find the inner shaft will not turn at all by hand.

Is this the pressure of the sonnax washer and packers stopping it ?

Am I doing this all correctly ??  :-/ :-/

Omega General Help / AR35 Gearbox
« on: 25 March 2009, 17:19:19 »
Got my new gearbox. Thanks Loo-Knee and Marks DTM  :y

Can anyone (sassanach  ;)) tell me the part number for the sonnax thrust washer? Will be replacing this before fitting box.

When I tip the box forward, I get an amount of oil leaking from around the shaft inside the bell housing. Is this normal or does it need a new centre oil seal?

I can get a seal if i need onewhen I order the thrust washer  :y

Omega General Help / Auto Gearbox
« on: 10 March 2009, 11:59:41 »
After a good atf flush and a correct filling of new dex III the gearbox ran like a dream. For a while.

It has started to play up again. >:(

Goes into first, then second. It hangs in second then has a dizzy fit and goes into limp mode. If the revs are high it is like a kick in the teeth when it goes.

Picked up the caravan and the gearbox said NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Okay I admit it fellow oofers, I need a new box.  :'( :'(

To the point.
Which gearbox should I go for another AR25 (presently fitted) or hunt out an AR35 ?
What should I expect to pay for either box.................££££

If any local Breakers have one which they are sure is servicable Get in touch

I have never fitted an auto box. Does anybody near me want to teach me and let me work alongside them, a steep learning curve  ;D ;D

All advice and leads welcome chaps and chappesses  :y :y :y

Would there be a chance it has the same problem as Marbles  ::) --> http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1236687899

Thanks Sean ;)
