2.5 heads on 3.0
« on: 23 March 2007, 23:33:33 »

I know details around CR etc have been discussed, but the bits are ordered, and the rebuild will start on Tues, after total stripdown and clean on Mon.. so I need to make a decision :)

It'd be fun, but realistically doesn't look like a good idea.  :'(

Well, you've created a lot of interest with this one James ;)

I think you should add 'I haven't got a clue what you're talking about' ::)

I have gone for no.

I don't want to see this  :-Xed up by too high a compression ratio.

The standard 3.0 is powerful enough in itself. :)

Fair comment Dave... but... what's the chances of the old heads being donald ducked eg due to overheating? Or maybe cracked? I guess the advantage is that the 2.5 heads are known to be good..

I voted yes. Two reasons, a)because Laidback voted no and b) to see what happens when someone does actually do it.
 ;D

So, would I do it myself? Not a chance. But then again I did spend £90 on parts Mark could have got me for £32. :(

When I first heard about it last fall it certainly sounded like someone had tried it, but truckloads of silence being delivered now.  :-?

A big issue is resale.  The real value will be seriously affected.  There is also the hassle factor, the basics of fuelling and using the car will be a constant challenge.  That makes this more of a project car than a daily driver.  If it was a project / weekend car then it could be fun to tinker with.  If you need it to get around then it is more risk than it's worth.

I resent listing this site, but, there is some info in the links, largely provided by current members here, on this subject:
