General Car Chat / Ssangyong Korando
« on: 22 October 2014, 20:20:38 »
9am tomorrow morning I'm picking up swmbo's new car. She ditched the duster idea after we test drove this on Monday. Must say I'm quite impressed with it.
Feels really sturdy on the road, good ride position, looks good, loads of room inside, good boot space and just feels solid inside and out, much more so than the Duster. Good level of spec, loads of goodies as standard.
And it comes with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.  :y

*puts flak jacket on and prepares...*......

Swmbo is considering a Dacia Duster. It's the "laureate " top of the range model which gives you alloys, remote locking, touch screen sat nav, metallic paint, air con and one or two other bits and bobs all for a smidgen over 15K.
The boot space is really quite impressive and that's one of the main reasons she's going for it, plenty room for the dog/pram/shopping.

We test drove a kia sportage the other day, was ok, but boot space wasnt as big, and it was the K2 model, the. Mid-range one, which had a very hefty price IMO of just over £21K !

I must admit I quite like the look of the duster and the reviews I've read online were a lot more favourable than I was expecting.

So....thoughts? Good /bad points? Any info appreciated.  :y

General Discussion Area / Chester & Liverpool ...
« on: 30 August 2014, 21:46:27 »
Heading to Chester in a couple of weeks for swmbos birthday. Spending a Sunday night there and then heading to Liverpool the following day. Staying in the titanic hotel,by the docks, looks pretty good.
Any advice on places of interest and of any good pubs/restaurants in either places would be grand chaps  :y

I love it!  :) only really started eating indian food in the last year and love it.

What I'd like to do is cook restaurant style food at home. Do any of you have any recipes I can try and any hints or tips to get it looking and tasting the same as my local curry house?

General Discussion Area / Hedgehog
« on: 18 July 2014, 21:14:15 »
Spotted a baby hedgehog wandering around in the garden around 6pm tonight. First time we've seen one in the garden. Took our 15 month old daughter out for a look and she was well impressed  :)
Swmbo put a small amount of milk out, and we were horrified half an hour later to discover this can actually kill them! Luckily it only had a small sip before wandering off so I doubt any damage has been done. Never knew hedgehogs could die from milk!
Nice to see the little fella though, hopefully he'll visit us again.  :)

For another 4 years and I can barely believe my baby will be in P1 then. But what a World Cup we've had. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
And here's hoping the next one will involve my own team.  :-\

General Discussion Area / Toad Tour...
« on: 12 July 2014, 13:55:11 »
Spotted an Aston Martin V8 Volante convertible whilst on holiday on Thursday. Beautiful condition and sounded fantastic.  On the front there was a sign attached saying Toad Tour 2014.
Can't find much about this online, anyone know much about the Toad Tour?

General Car Chat / MG TF question...
« on: 06 July 2014, 20:55:06 »
The mother in law has an 02 plate MG TF 1.8. She's planning on selling it and a guy viewed it today. He discovered a whiteish gunk in the expansion tank. Straight away he said the cylinder head gasket had gone. M.I.L said the car seems to be running fine, no water is leaking and no other signs that its HGF.
Having looked online most are saying it is HGF, but there's also quite a few posts on MG forums from experienced members who say its nothing to worry about as its a common symptom of a car being used on short journeys.
M.I.L only ever uses it in the summer months and will do around 10 miles on an average day and  she never gives it a hammering
The "cure" is to give it a right good run according to some.
Anyone have any knowledge of these cars and if so is it good or bad news?

Was at the proving grounds just outside Leeds yesterday, got to drive a Ferrari, Lamborghini , Audi R8 , Aston Martin and a 911 turbo.
Fantastic fun. The 911 was the quickest,I couldn't believe how fast it was, followed closely by the Lambo. First time ive driven a car with flappy paddle gears, but got used to them in no time. All except the Audi were flappy paddle.
Was disappointed with the Audi, very clunky gears. The Aston was my favourite drive, such a lovely car.
And if I could remember how to post pics on here I would :-[
