Just stumbled across an excellent programme on bbc4about automata. Machines that do quite complex things. I found it very interesting. No doubt available on I player.

I had seen the Swan before but not the Turk or the boy that writes.

 :y I've seen the swan a couple of times at Beamish museum , always amazes me that they could make that hundreds of years ago
