My old Tata has resurfaced.
« on: 22 July 2021, 13:56:02 »

There is madness in the used car trade at the moment. :o

I paid £37500 for her a full 4 years ago, with just 6000 miles beneath her Draco alloys. I was also given 2 years Jaguar warranty and a full tank  of super unleaded. She is way overpriced.

She has covered 23000 miles, not 20000, and there is no mention of the remap by Viezu.

WBAC was always going to make a profit ,that's how they stay in business .

you could have sold it privately

though i doubt many of the local turnip farmers would have been interested ,no 3 point hitch or PTO  :P

She had enough torque......about 550 lb ft, to unearth a few root vegetables. :)

Your right, Opti, it is madness at the moment. Not on the price scale of your car, but.......We paid £10,100 for wifey's astra 3.5 years ago, it was one year old with 9,900 miles on it. It's now 4.5 years old with 39,000 miles on it and WBAC have offered £7,200 for it. Auto trader value it for a private sale at £8,040. That's circa £2000 it would have cost us for three and a half years motoring and putting 30,000 miles on it.
Of course, if we decided to sell, it's replacement would be outrageously priced also.

I'd refuse to buy anything from anyone that charged an 'admin fee'  ..... build it into the price by all means, but don't take the p***!
What do they claim to do for the fee?

It's the salesman's fee for the hour he spends trying to sell you gap insurance, alloy wheel insurance, supagard and finance.

Not to mention the cost of clocking it. Although they get a commission for selling all the 'products' you list. The admin fee is simply a break you tax >:(

I've only been charged an admin fee (£99) once. I left it till the very last minute and told the salesman to knock it off the price of the car or I'd walk. As he had spent nearly an hour trying to upsell me stuff and printing paperwork out, he really had no choice. He had a face like thunder, but he did it.
I often wonder if he pissed into the fuel tank before I picked it up. He was not there at handover.

I'm not looking forwards to buying Mo's new car (whenever that is), because I can always give the salesman the impression that I can take it or leave it. She can't.

They're all snakes. Years back I went with my sister in law to a main dealer to buy an Astra she'd liked the look of. I can't quite remember the details but after the charade of going upstairs to 'ask his boss' this & that, we agreed a price. He then 'suddenly remembered' £100 that he needed to add .... something to do with apart exchange. We both stood up & walked out of the showroom. Her phone rang about 15/20 mins later .... he'd agreed to knock the £100 off.

If you click the info tab it says ....

How it compares
This vehicle has done 23,577 fewer miles than the average petrol Jaguar XF XFR Saloon registered in March 2015, compared to similar vehicles on Auto Trader.

They can't really lose. In you're interested in a vehicle like that, once you're in the showroom you're not going to argue about the 'admin error'. The kindly salesperson may even knock a couple of hundred off for you.

There's discrepancies and there's discrepancies.

You'd have to be soft in the head to buy a car without even looking at the MoT history. 3,000 miles is quite some 'admin error'...

Aren't those costs normally taken out of the overall profit? Asda & Tesco don't add an admin charge to your shopping trolly when it's gone through the till.

Just looked on Motorpoint at a couple of Subarus , put the Range Rover details in as a PX expecting peanuts but quite surprised at £6,560  I paid £7,000 almost 2 years ago , PX offers are definitely good at present.

I will replace her when a little sanity returns to the used car market. She only covered about 3000 miles each year.

I keep thinking TVR Cerbera as a practical replacement. :)

Do I need help?

It is no ordinary Signumb, Kevin.

It is a Marks and Spencer 2.8 V6 Turbo Signumb, which is extremely rare and sought after. :D

What could possibly go wrong with a 25 year old plastic  car, built in Blackpool, by a workforce 'high' on industrial strength solvent. :D

Build quality to rival your average amateur built Robin Hood.

Highly stressed engine designed by a couple of whippet-shaggers in a shed.

Speaking of TVR.

What could possibly go wrong with a 25 year plastic old car built in Blackpool by a workforce 'high' on industrial strength solvent. :D
Were they Russian by then? Probably pissed as well  ;D

If nothing else you'll get to meet new and interesting people. Probably wearing RAC branded fluorescent jackets   ;D

You'd best be on your guard behind the wheel though, hopefully the Jaaag's traction control and nice progressive handling hasn't made you soft  :D

I keep thinking TVR Cerbera as a practical replacement. :)

Do I need help?

 ;D

Yes.

Roof.....four seats......equals practical..... ::)

Build quality to rival your average amateur built Robin Hood.

Highly stressed engine designed by a couple of whippet-shaggers in a shed.

Sounds eminently sensible to me
. ;D

OK...you've convinced me.

I shall end my driving days with an Astra derv. :'( :'( ;D

The Macca F1 tipped the scales at around 1100KG and had 627 BHP. Pretty sure it didn't have much in the way of ESP/traction control.

.......which may be why Mr Bean ended up in a ditch. :D

they're no less reliable than a Boxster, small 911 or M3. But most of the bits are cheaper and easier to fit. And you can use better glue than TVR did on the interior :y

Years back when you could have a tour around the factory I went with a few lads from work. The smell of resin/solvent in workshop where they laid up the GRP was unbelievable ... no idea how they managed a shift in there.

Maybe it was a nice place to work and the daze passed by in a pleasant kind of haze?   :)
