It's not difficult to get very close to that with a V6 Omega.

Especially with the correct gearbox.

Hmmm, thats a difficult choice.  A clapped out post mid 80s Merc, or a clapped out Battlebus.  I'm swaying slightly towards the bus on practicality and fun.  I nearly swayed towards the S Class on comfort, but then remembered the standard seats are awful, and you have to take the upgrade option.

Both are equally worthy of a match and some petrol.

No idea why the economy is so shite this time, its normally around 40mpg.  I guess its been doing all the 1.5 mile trips to town lately, though I did take it to Londonium last month....    ....though I might have ragged the bejesus out of it then.  But sub 30mpg is shocking from that thing.

A four speed 2.0l Capri does better than that :o

I'd rather have the Zafira than an old Merc, it's fixable and more comfortable.

Have you checked both ambient temp sensor (part of the MAF, not the bumper "outside temp sensor" one )  and coolant temp sensor with live data ? they won't necessarily put the EML light on ,
Our 2003 2L tractor juice Zafira A is pretty much the same as yours, elegance IIRC  (apart from electric EGR) and gets 39MPG pretty consistently   :-\

Thats a very different engine, ECU/electrically.

But to answer you Q, nope. I dont touch it. I'm pretty certain the stat is partially open, as it takes an age (like 6-8 miloes of cruising) to get anywhere over a quarter on the guage.  But it had a new headlight this year. No more presents until Christmas ;D

It made it to Brackley ,which is a miracle in itself  :D

a part open wet stat would mess up the MPG for sure  :y
though it's worth checking live data on the temp sensors ,won't cost anything ,other than 20 mins of time  :P
I was changing the MAF for the ambient temp error that time you popped over my Mum's house  ;)

Keep the heater off for a while in the morning to help it warm quicker and put some baco foil in front of the rad but don’t forget to take it off😂
