Sell the fiesta. Get an LPG kit for the omega with the money and use it as your daily

Assuming you have LPG nearby. I think you do, near you :y

Omega General Help / Re: Valve stem seals

If you want them done, I will do them for a very fair price. To include a full head refurb. I’m afraid I can’t do a job of that magnitude for totally free, but it would still be a fraction of garage labour…. It would also be prime time to do cambelt and water pump - it would be removed regardless, so no extra labour ….

The only caveat is that I can’t work at the speed I used to - I’d need the car at my place for a short while :y

I think you are right TB....I have seen the seals for just a few quid. We will see how it goes, then it might be a call to Serek.  :y

Just in the process of doing mine, along with other jobs. Not a bad job to do at all :y
I assume cams out, but can it be done without removing head?

I personally have the heads removed, because the car had a cambelt let go, and all 12 inlet valves are as bent as a 9 bob note  ;D

I would do it head-off, personally. It gives the opportunity to inspect the valve seats, re-lap the valves, etc. I appreciate it's more work, but, I really wouldn't fancy dropping one of those little retaining collets down into an oilway or similar  :y

What has become of our country? Mob-handed police arresting a 16-year old autistic girl because of "homophobic" comment in her own house?

I despair.

If the (so say) "homophobic comment" was said when the girl and the officer were in a private house, then there is NO offence under the public order act at all.

"Sections 4, 4A and 5 may take place in a public or private place. No offence under these sections is committed, however, if such conduct takes place inside a dwelling and the person to whom it is directed, is inside that or another dwelling"

It sounds very much like a young officer saw red and made an awful judgement.

It's annoying because it gives sensible / experienced cops a bad name.

bit late I suspect but have 2 steels free to a good home.

Yes please, are you around this week? :)

Omega General Help / Re: Engine Management Light On
« on: 13 August 2023, 23:35:11 »
If that came off, two things would have happened - the huge influx of unmetered air would have caused your engine to run at full revs, and your braking ability reduced by at least 80%. So thank god you caught it.

No it wouldn't. The engine would stall at the first (and every) opportunity.

Agree about the brakes, they would be very wooden and ineffective, although the brake servo would hold vacuum for a while if it fell off mid drive.

I don't think you're wrong, but I do think it depends on how loose the pipe was. If it didn't totally detach, but let enough air in, the revs could rise.

But it's academic.... main thing it isn't been caught early, and everyone is ok :y

Sorry, only just seen this, have been busy with loads of non car stuff lately else I’d have offered to take a look.

On balance, the issue was almost certainly the ECU compensating for unmetered air, entering post MAF from the loose servo pipe connection.

I’m not getting drawn into any conversation about anyones standard of work, save to say that even the most skilled people in the world can make an odd mistake, and it’s only human. Serek is an incredibly skilled mechanic.

What I will say though is sod the light - I’m just glad you found that loose servo hose.

If that came off, two things would have happened - the huge influx of unmetered air would have caused your engine to run at full revs, and your braking ability reduced by at least 80%. So thank god you caught it.

And surely they plug it in to check for codes as part of the service*.

*If only to upsell on any findings :-X

Exactly that ……

Need a rear set of seats for an estate. Any type considered, even if it’s a mismatch, as a stopgap to get the car MOT worthy. Cheers

Omega General Help / 2.2 Head Gasket Material Type
« on: 07 August 2023, 00:29:06 »
Sorry to sound dim, but I’m getting old and it’s been over a decade since I did any meaningful work on a 4 banger Omega … can someone please tell me if the 2.2 petrol uses a composite, or a multi-layer steel head gasket?

Many thanks in advance :y :y
