Dasboard display icons.
« on: 26 August 2006, 09:25:52 »

My 2001 omega has a engine icon(yellow) on the dashboard which lit up yesterday continuous >:(, looked in the owners manual and the reasons to why this has happened are very vaige and opt for the ' consult your main dealer'.

What it does say is - there is a a problem with emmissions or immobiliser and while the icon is lit a safety backup is in force and the car will not perform as it would normally do so don't use it for long periods.

Has anybody any further info on this or had the same problem.
I will take it to vauxhall on monday.. and i'm guessing it will cost alot of money to put right.. hope somebody can help.

Dave.

A dealer will likely charge you £45 + VAT to read the fault codes via Tech2 before even starting to work on it. Then they will probably say the ECU is knackered, and what you to take out a mortgage.

Alas, being a 2.6, you can't do the 'paperclip' test.  Find an independent with a generic code reader (or buy one yourself - they can be cheaper than paying the £45 for Vx - but make sure its compatible with your 2.6 Omega). Post the codes here, and we can advise.

Just a thought - My breakdown recovery service.. Do they carry this piece of kit with them and  able to give me the codes or at least tell me where the fault lies or advise me to take it to my dealer?

Both RAC and AA carry fairly comprehensive readers. But you haven't broken done (yet) - at worst, you are in limp...

Is the light permenently on, is it flashing, or has it gone back out?

Had no work to the exhaust system, breakdown guy has been, "sorry cant help you we don't carry diagnostic equipment because they cost too much and if we did carry the equipment it would only give you a code and tell you where the problem lies(well yes thats what i want), so we can take you to a garage.. Oh no that won't be of use to you it's a bank holiday".. bye.!! Crazy!!

I suppose its my fault for taking up the offer of breakdown assistance offered by my insurance company... Europ Assistance I won't be using again.

How are the Vx dealers around you? - If you can talk to the actual Vx mechanics, and not the people in shirt & tie they might give you a quick diagnose. Explain your situation, and that you only want the fault codes.....

Maybe dontate to their favorite charity as well ;)

Is there anyone up north ish with Tech2?

How exactly does it run? Will it rev past 4500rpm? Does it stutter? Cut out? etc....

Dave.

If its the symbol of the engine....then it is the emissions light.....perfectly fine to drive with it on.....only a prob if it starts flashing iirc

Think you might find vx dealer closed Monday......its a bank holiday  ;)

Mine comes on and off as well....but like Martin....mine runs on lpg too.

Be worth getting the codes read......but prob just a faulty sensor.....theres 2 off them (lambda sensors)

One you can see from the engine bay.....on the exhaust pipe off the manifold (well you can on a 2.2, not sure on V6's) Other one is after the cat and 1st exhaust box ( 1st time i saw the second one today....as my meega had it wheels up in air dangling.....having an oil change)
