What Amps should the battery be on my 2.2 petrol manual 2003 Omega?
At the moment it is a 60Ah. This seems a bit low to me.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Coolant flush question
« on: 08 June 2014, 11:20:34 »
I understand about having the heater on full but why is it necessary to have the heater fan on full as well when bleeding the system?

I own a 2.2 petrol and the thermostat is easy to get too. I was also thinking about taking out the thermostat to flush the system quicker and save a lot of fuel not having to wait for the engine to come up to temp. Then put the thermostat back in for the last refill. Any reason why I shouldn't do it this way?

Thanks

I have two fans. One on the coolant and one on the air con radiator, on my Omega 2.2 petrol 2003. Is this standard?

With the eco switched on. When the engine is up to temperature both coolant and air con radiator fans come on at the same time when at 90 on the dash and then both fans turn off again after temp drops.

If I start the engine from cold with air con on (eco off), both the coolant and air con radiator fans come on straight away and stay on.

I always thought that the coolant and air con radiator fans were independent of each other?

Can some one please explain to me how and when the coolant and air con fans should come on and go off and are they both connected in some way?

I want to understand the system so I can make sure that all is working as it should be before putting her on the road for the first time next week.

Any help with this is appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

Omega General Help / Neuton NT5000 tyres
« on: 04 June 2014, 08:01:26 »
Anyone tried the Neuton NT5000 tyres on the Omega and are they any good?

Anyone know of a good tyre fitting and balancing service in or around the Bristol area?
Last one I went to put the weights on the outside rims of my alloy wheels and it took them 3 attempts to balance them right.  :o These wheels are in good condition and I would like to keep them that way.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Replacement number plates
« on: 03 June 2014, 09:26:19 »
Can you recommend a good on-line shop to get some good decent replacement number plates made? The ones I've had in the past don't seem to be very good quality.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Noisy lifters
« on: 31 May 2014, 09:24:44 »
If the car has not been started for a few days there is a loud tapping from the top of the engine. The longer the time between not starting the loader the tapping and the longer it takes before it goes quiet. I believe this to be caused by the lifters.

The engine is a Z22XE @ 113K. Do these engines suffer from noisy lifters and should I be worried?

Thanks

I put a new Conti cambelt kit, new water pump and set the cambelt tension correctly.

If you have a look in the photo's the belt is sitting too far back on the pulleys and is touching the arrow on the timing belt tensioner as well. I have rotated the engine several times but still the belt sits too far back.

I went to VX and asked for the oil seal that is just behind the crankshaft pulley and I  was given part 90501720. It did not fit and now I need a new one because it is now  damaged trying to get it to fit. Omega 2.2 petrol manual 2003.

Is this the correct part 90501720?

I need to now ASAP so I can order the correct new one from VX.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Crankshaft pulley bolt worn problem
« on: 14 May 2014, 11:57:39 »
I am trying to undo the pulley bolt to renew the crankshaft oil seal, but it looks like someone has already had a go before me.

I cannot get a spanner or socket onto the 17mm bolt tight enough due to the head of the bolt being worn. The minute I put any pressure onto the spanner/socket it just slips right off.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Omega General Help / Crankshaft oil seal leaking
« on: 09 May 2014, 09:48:49 »
Just want to make sure, it is the crankshaft oil seal leaking. The oil inside the crank pulley itself is plusgas and not from the engine. All other oil is from the leak. I've added some engine photos as well to help diagnose the leak.

There are other photos on Flickr of the engine. Please feel free to have a look and let me know if you see anything that should be looked at.  :y
