2.2i FL VS 2.6 FL handling and steering feel
« on: 30 May 2015, 09:54:25 »

What is different between the 2.2i and 2.6 both FL's suspension, steering rack/box, chassis setup etc?

The steering and handling is so different between the two it's very noticeable. I would have thought both would be similar.

Thanks

To work on, I find the 2.2i is a much easier engine to work on but the 2.6 is so much better in steering feel and handling/ride than the 2.2i.

Why is this?

V6 has servotronic steering... assuming that cars are otherwise identical, same body/gearbox/wheels/tyres/tyre pressures steering box is only difference... :y

GLS, CD and CDX share the same suspension for any given engine, Sport/MV6 should be 15mm lower and taughter, Elite is same ride height as GLS etc but softer sprung with self levelling rear shocks :y

The better feel/ride difference is nothing to do with the front springs or shocks being different between the 2.2i and the 2.6.  :o

So it's all down to the weight of the V6 engine on the same front suspension that is making it feel more planted on the road and gives it a much smoother ride.  :y

I much prefer the Servotronic steering in the V6 over the 2.2i and the extra weight on the front suspension.  :)  ;D

Thanks Al.  :y

No just the steering... the springs are different for each engine type :y

I have 2.2 & 3.2, the 2.2 is indeed a joy to work on. Everything is so easy, space, access is all good, I really enjoy working on it.

The 3.2 is pig to work on, but does feel nicer to drive. Perhaps the almost 100 extra horses helps?  ;D

All mine run on normal shocks and springs, except the 3.2 has Elite front shocks which are tad softer.

Thing is, given most are what 10-15 years old at least & 100k, they will all feel so different
