While changing the wheels on my Elite at the weekend I also decided to swap the tyres around on my CDX. The tyres on the CDX have been on the car for around 9 months and, although the rears were worn down to the markers, the fronts looked OK... until I took the wheels off!!
Here is the front offside tyre looking at the outside tread...

Looks like there is plenty of tread left - a good few thousand miles at least.
Until you look at the inside tread.....

As you can see, the damage is pretty much all the way round the tyre...

I'm not sure whether this has been caused purely by poor alignment or whether there was a fault on the tyre but either way this tyre was seconds away from disaster.
When did you last check yours????
Go do it now.

both the fronts were like that on my elite, infact one blew out. fitted new idler, wishbones, had it tracked. was way out.
-
lucky escape there bud !! get you tracking and camber checked asap :o :o
-
I think I will be checking mine later!! :o :o

We went to look at a Network Q Omega at a garage in Leicester and it was the star car with front wheels up on ramps. The tyres were down to the metal on the inside edges. So even the experts can miss inner wear!
had a very lucky escape when I was a lot younger. Had an Anglia (a lovely car made by Ford). needed two new tyres. Went to the Goodyear depot and the guy said. We can do you two crossply remoulds for £4. Drove up to Scarborough and back and stopped for fuel and checked the tyres at Markfield. There was a small bleb on the inside of one. The other side had three blebs -one so big it nearly caught the suspension. Went back and the manager said he would refund me. List price £6 each less 10% for the wear from driving 300 miles. I went straight round to Jocks Tyres and bought real tyres! Always worth checking tyres even though the quailtty is much better nowadays.

Thats a camber fault....not tracking

Both Migs now booked in for full geometry checks later this week. The CDX isnt going anywhere until it's done.
-
Both my front wheels were taken off over 2 weeks ago and must say I am suprised they are perfect, no uneven wear. For saying it's on the original suspension, well nothing been changed in my ownership it's doing well.

I'm sure Omega's are a bit prone to camber problems. I had exactly the same as this with my front tyres a year or so ago. Full geometry check is the way to go.
-
My uneven wear was the toe, although camber fault was suspected.
I check my tyres all the time, I also turn the steering while doing so, to check the entire width of the tyre...
-
Check mine weekly... Pressure checked about the same period too TBH ::) ::) ::)
-
Dave I had a similar problem with my car after fitting 4 new Toyos, cambers ruined both front tyres within two months >:(
-
Must check mine tonight :y
-
Always do feel round the back of mine just to make sure!

like this at 21 K miles..still the threads were good..

but car was everywhere and I changed them..bloody crap tires.. >:(

Thats exactly how my offside front tyre looked when I changed the wishbones, shocks, & droplinks a couple of weeks ago.
The nearside one wasn't much better, but that wasn't down to the reinforcement cording.
I've thrown a couple of part worns on for the meantime, but it's off to WIM in the next couple of weeks for new rubber and a full geometry set up.
-
Just as a footnote to the tyre wear problem I had....
Took both Omegas in for full geometry check today. Problem with the tyres was caused by the camber on the front right being out by 1 degree at -2,12'. Worryingly though this was still within manufacturers specifications of between -2,25' to -0,55'.
Shocks, wishbones, etc. all checked and were fine :y

Noticed this morning on my check that the NSR is a bit low on the inner edge... It'll live a bit longer but still a shame as the rest is good!
Can't really complain though as it came from the front after I had the WIM treatment and was quite well worn then!
I've worn the pair quite quickly after swapping them but TBH I think it's just because I drive it quite hard :-[ :-[
