General Car Chat / Re: Can I have....
« on: 27 December 2023, 14:29:00 »

But as a fellow owner of a JLR product, I am interested to hear what make part they are actually using, and what modification they make, as mine will soon be coming around to need doing again, as some are now approaching 6 years old...

...and having access to the warranty stats, I have a pretty good handle on the expected life and failure modes (generally switches or motor on the genuine part, add a piece of sprung plastic that controls the actuator that activates the switch setup on the chinese equivalent cloned part that is sold as the aftermarket option in the aftermarket network)...

If you want to be helpful, that is.

I have found an aftermarket part for swmbo's Evoque. Allows for simple locking and unlocking from the driver's seat and so far has proved 100% reliable. Also cost £2.99p.

I'm yet to establish why she isn't 100% satisfied...

Hi Tunnie, long time no see!

How's the 435i? My old boss had one - nice bit of kit I thought and I still miss my 335d  :y

Looks good to me. :y

.. but wait until TheBoy spots the Sony head unit. :-X

Well sh!t, what's he got against the bastid head unit?! >:(

I was prepared for the comments on: rust, suspension bushes, DMF, DPF, injectors, EGR, glow plugs etc etc. What the merry hell is wrong with my stereo?!  ;D

Put a deposit down on the Zafira's successor  :y
Dacia Duster or CL500 :-\

Sadly the requirement of 7 seats ruled out both those options (the cl500 I have a definite soft spot for).

Went for a Ford Galaxy tdci 163ps in the end as all the grand voyagers I saw were either ropey, expensive or both.  ???

We had a look at a couple of Zaf Tourers but the third row space just wasn't sufficient - not that it bothered me any as I will always be a first row passenger.

The Galaxy handles very well for its size and given it has 50% more power and about 120% more torque than the zafira it should go well enough for a family bus.

Seeing as I know you all love an opportunity to tell people they've spent too much on their cars  ;D

On a side note Stemo, if you're looking for out and out space, I reckon you could lose mutley in here no problem!

, so glow plugs are arguably more important once started than they are in the starting process, particularly in current UK temps.

So do the glow plugs stay on once the engine is running? I thought they were purely there to get things warm and aid starting?

Shows what I know!

A rough running TDCi Mondeo :o ? I hope your wallet is full. Likely causes are injectors, fuel pump, turbo or internal engine faults due to not fixing the previous problems. And if it's a bit slow to start then the flywheel is failing, which can also make them run badly.

Well aren't you a ray of sunshine this evening!  ;)

Don't know about the car, but this seems like a decent review (from a bloke who owns/drives a LOT of cars).

Sounds like just what you're after  :y

Implemented a complete bodge carefully engineered solution using the tools and materials on hand to the zafira's exhaust as the blow from the flexi section has finally become unbearable.

Said solution involved the use of flexible aluminium ducting and some jubilee clips. Given its required design life is about 3-4 days and 140 miles, I'm confident in my solution  ;D

Mrs TheBoy has an itch for an Evoque. God knows why.

I know of a very good used one, coming available soon... ;D

or maybe a modern day General Lee ..... you'd need bloody deep pockets though!  ;D ;D ;D

I'd love to know who buys these things, £145k for a plastic interior and a broken steering wheel.

Its JLR, I'm guess about 4+ years old. The door locks are designed to fail.
Its a 2015 one, so either its lasted well beyond its intended design life, or its about to get its second replacement  ;D

So guess it depends how quickly you want shot of it :y

The correct question is, how long can I withstand the nagging to do the job, then add that to how long it will last....

On balance I think the eBay one will do just fine  ;D

Yes, I could do that, but seeing as she may be trading it in over the next month or two, it might just be getting one.

From eBay. Made in China. Costing about £25.

What could possibly go wrong  :D
