Evening guys. So I’m on furlough for three weeks as I’m sure many are and I’m going to do a load of work on eeyore (my omega)

One thing is that my wheels are in fairly good condition for their age but I’d love them to be awesome. Can u get excellent results with rattle cans?

Depends on your own interpretation of "excellent" you can certainly obtain very good results with rattle cans.As ever preparation is key and take your time allowing time for "flash off" between coats.

Im about to do my fourth one in the last week with rattle cans. Decent results are definitely achievable, with good preparation and patience. If badly scratched use filler primer to help get rid of the scratches before colour and lacquer.

My wheels are the more fat spoke design making it I think a bit easier,but even so I still "bodged" them-didn't even take them off the car!!I did them because the lacquer was peeling badly on them.Rubbed down with 320 then 600 masked them up and coated with primer,then re-masked them so the "face" could be painted silver,masked again so the sides of the spokes and rim between could be painted steel,then the whole coated with lacquer.Meant to polish them up for a better shine but never got round to it,although 8yrs on and they're still holding up.

Wurth is good stuff. I used it last time I painted my wheels, but used other paint this time which was crap in comparison.

Hi guys. Thanks for al the replies and replies. Sorry I haven’t replied but had a lot of unexpected shit on 😩😩😩

Anyway i have an alloy from work and am going to practice first before jumping straight in 😃😃😃

If I don’t get the results I’m after I’ll get them done professionally.

On a side note I have some light scratches on the door card pockets. I’ve got a good heat gun and I’ve seen this will take them out. Anyone tried this? And if no good any suggestions how to get rid of them?

if youre talking about the plastic covers on the doors that pull open be very very carefull.i wouldnt put a heat gun near them but there may be a trick im missing here. on mine they were quite bad (along with various other plastics that have the soft coating on and i just removed mine with panel wipe and t cut.a very long job but you end up with brand new looking but shiny black / grey pieces.on mine the gear surround was particularly bad and now looks great back to its base shiny black.
obviously each to their own on this

on mine they were badly marked and bits of the coating was coming off.i rubbed them with panel wipe and it eventually removed the top coat of whatever it is.it did take ages however so i cannot remember wether t cut ( or the polish of your choice) was faster ?
other people may have some suggestions too but that worked for me

If it helps any, I have removed the plastic trim pieces and sprayed them with that rubber wrap stuff. I'm just off a night shift so can't think what its called.

It looks pretty decent and seems to be lasting.

Not so much removable as dismantleable...

And if you're going to do the pockets, you may as well do the armrests

So if it’s not removable the best way by the sounds of it is to mask the door card and spray it. That’s fine cos the rest of the door card is in really good condition....just scuffs on the pockets

Just to clarify (although I still haven't been asleep), I sprayed the door trims, gear surround, centre console, basically the bits that would be silver on an MV6. I havent sprayed the bigger bits like the pockets.

Id imagine you could do the same, perhaps with a metric buggerton of Plastidip (thank you Gollum!) lacquer over the top to try to keep it looking well.

I didn't say 'not removable'...

The door card is easily dismantleable with little more than a Dremel... Rebuilding it requires little more than a handful of short panhead self tappers and washers

If you're to do it, may as well do it properly 

If memory still works, then the pockets have a couple of hinge pins, but they're not accessible without stripping the door card

It's spray on vinyl, not paint.

Option 1. Do nothing.

Option 2. Clean the coating so it looks nice and leave it.

Option 3. Remove the coating in situ, and redcoat with plastidip, or my preference, Tamyia acrylic spray paint in a suitable shade.

Option 4. Much the same as Option 3, but done properly by removing and stripping down the door card.

Just been out and had a butchers. The scratches are literally just in that layer of vinyl coating. So having previously done this I’ll have to scratch that layer off. The t cut didn’t even touch it. Maybe a razor blades?

I’ve seen vinyl wrap is an option. The stuff on eBay is the exact colour and very cheap. I think this looks like the sort of finish I’m after. You guys ever done this?

Its OK as long as you have straight edges and somewhere to tuck the leftovers out of sight. Plastidip is much easier as you just spray it where you want and don't spray it where you don't.

yes, but it looks very different to the soft touch plastics.


You can paint these items with ordinary auto paint, or vinyl paints but you must remove any of the polish that might have been applied.


Getting a good surface finish before applying any of these treatments will be your biggest problem; none of them will mask poor preparation.
