Air Conditioning not cold
« on: 12 August 2011, 22:38:07 »

Hi Guys. I had my air con regassed by vauxhall last october and it was very cold afterwards. The car has been standing for 5 weeks recently whilst I was away and on return the temp wont pull down. The fan speed is high trying to pull down. When I select ECO there is a change in the idle speed so I guess the thing is working. Any suggestions please?

You the can do a visual check that the compressor is engaging. It's at the bottom right hand side of the engine. when engaged the centre hub should lock up and rotate with the outer pully. If this is not happennig you may have had a leak in the system and lost refridgerent. the system has a fail safe mechanism that wont allow the compressor to engage if the gas pressure is low to protect the system against damage.
If this is the case, the first thing to do is to take it to a place that can do a leak test and take it from there

It's recommended that if you don't use the climate control on a regular basis that you run it at least once a month to keep all the seals intact

usual suspect is a leak at the condensor..........they corrode over time. get a local mobile ac man to do a leak test. mine was leaking at the bottom. bought and fitted a new one, same ac man vacuumed system and refilled. been ice cold since.
dont go to quick fit or any other cowboy merchants because they wont check for leaks. :y
