got the standard phillips tape deck with 6 disc cd changer, it has front and rear door speakers and rear parcel shelf speakers. the rear right parcel shelf speaker has some distorded sound coming through it, even if you fade it to full left or full right, and the rear left parcel shelf speaker has nothing, so i replaced the speakers thining it was them after stripping the parcel shelf, and with the new speakers in its doing the exact same. so, does any one know what the problem could be ? also i see on the head unit it says 4 x 20 watt so i am thinking how does this power 6 speakers ?

On the elite bose system ive just fitted the rear speaker wires came direct from the amp the should be a 6 way system

ahh, right, could you tell me where the amp is, i suspect the amp might be the problem., although there are no bose markings on the system or speakers. the disc changer and head units are phillips.

On a saloon its under the rear parcel shelf and to access it.Take the raer shelf out then unscrew 7 screws ,then push the two tabs in from in the boot

i have had the speakers out to change the speakers, ther is a radio amplifier (ie for f.m), but cant see anything else. that goes to the speakers, the wires the connect to the speakers come from the plistic wiring loom the runs the width of the boot.

the plastic tray thing in the boot is where the bose amp should be, the tray is kept up by the screws underneath the rear shelf.im not 100% sure when the bose range started in the elites

It doesn`t sound like the BOSE system to me,
There was an earlier Philips version that had an amp to drive a couple of subwoofers - sounds like thats what you may have in there?

the front speakers are bass speakers and the rear door and parcel shelf are normal speakers.

In your front doors you should have two speakers.  One large mid-range at the bottom of the door, and a small tweeter at the position where the door mirror is.

Rear doors should have 1 or 2 speakers (depending on spec), both in the same position at the base of the door (again, 1 large mid-range and 1 tweeter).  If BOSE, there will be two large low-range speakers in the parcel shelf.

What model Philips head unit is it - that may help identify BOSE or Philips upgraded audio

will find out tomorrow what model it is, so does anyone know what sends signals to rear parcel shelf speakers as i assume its that , thas not working, as changed spaekers and same symptoms, surley the 4x20 on the head unit , cant power all the speakers ?

If you have speakers on teh rear shelf, then you almost certainly have an additional amplifier in there to drive them. Sounds like its that which has gone down.

okay, any ideas how i find the amplifier ? as i said the wires go into the loom that runs the width of inside the boot.

just to say the standard speakers in the parcel shelf ar 4 ohm and are made in belgium, no other markings on them
