Important: Beer question ........
« on: 13 December 2013, 08:11:03 »

In my recent travels in sampled Doom Bar beer.

Does anyone know if any of the supermarkets sell it? I must admit that at this time of year I'd rather not go round them all looking - so was hoping that one of you might know.

Thanks - Rob

Actually, a few mins on Google shows that many of them sell it - with Asda having it on offer & being the cheapest at the moment.  :y

Someone mention Doom Bar ... ? ::)

Morrisons always flog this revered tipple, though it disappears off the shelves at quite a rate!
Currently 3 bottles for a fiver :y

Santa's arrived early here ... with 7 gallons of it! :y

Seems its pretty much everywhere then  :y

Cant say I'd noticed it - but then again - had not really been looking. I've only really discovered it in one local pub & really liked it. A nice taste and just the right strength  :y

Doom Bar is the new Courage Best / London Pride round here. Struggle to find anywhere that doesn't sell the stuff. ;D

I've gone off it a bit, TBH. I find it a bit bland these days and I can't believe they are brewing the quantity they are selling in Cornwall. I reckon most of it comes from a Molson Coors "Lager factory" now, which would probably explain the missing flavour. ::)

Unfortunately our local club used to alternate guest beers with London Pride being my favourite, but current steward only gives the choice of Doombar, Doombar or Doombar which, I'm not impressed with.  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ I only go in there very occasionally these days and and stick to the Courage Best, which has never been as good since they changed where it is brewed. :( :( :( :(

Unfortunately, most beer is ruined once the big brewery's get their hands on it and change from barley, hops and yeast to such apptising ingredients like potato starch extract, flavourings etc, etc. Which is why continental lagers tastes decent when in France, Spain, Germany etc, but like gnats pee when brewed under licence in the UK.  >:( >:( >:( >:( Look what they did to Boddingtons where the original had a very distinctive taste, but they were then taken over by one of the big four, who 'improved it' to standard 'UK keg flavour', disgusting now.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Just been to asda - £2 a bottle for the doom bar.
it's OK, I suppose.  ;)

Also bought myself three bottles of "old tom" at 3 for a fiver.
They're only 1/2pt bottles, but 10%  ::)

I find that I much prefer the stronger beers -
special brew (8%)
guinness export (7.5%)
gold label (10%?)

but *definitely* Old Tom comes out on top.
