I had a little warning late last night on the southbound M5 near Bridgewater. ::)
Driving at 'motorway speeds' in the middle lane as there were trucks up ahead and I saw a car come up fast behind me. Just as I was thinking "What are you doing" as he didn't pass me, the blue lights came on behind the grill! F@CK!! :o So I slowed and moved into the inside lane expecting him to follow me, but he stayed on my rear corner for a bit and then buggered off! Phew! ::)
So beware! After getting used to never seeing any traffic police on the motorways for years it appears they're back! :(
I was lucky last night! :y

Yes, and hopefully there numbers will grow now, so we will all have to be extra careful not to go over 80, opps, 70!! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;)
Yes, if it also means less people stay stuck in that middle lane, for no reason whatsoever, then a fixed penalty notice every time! :y

Obviously , at the OOF , we ALL stick to the speed limits ::) :-X ;D
but it's good to know there are un-marked cars out here :y

Damn, that's a route I use when I pop down to my mates in Padstow. I travel late at night and normally have a clear run from M5 Avonmouth down to A30 Victoria Interchange. This will stick an hour on my journey and stop me playing 'challenge the Sat Nav ETA'. >:( ......I'm only kidding if you read this Mr Insurance man.
Yes, and hopefully there numbers will grow now.......
I've managed just fine without them Lizzie. ;)

When I read the thread title, I thought you meant the Christmas smilies. Opti and me are disappointed now.

The thing
with traffic police is they can see more offences than the cameras can but also they can use discretion when dealing with offenders.

An encounter with such a traffic cop saved my licence and livelihood 10 years ago. :y

That was where I was racing another car once, in front of the other car, but I saw the copper on the slip road so I pulled back into the middle lane and slowed, and the other car came tearing past.
I got a naughty boy wave from the copper as he then passed - by which time I was at the correct legal speed-ish - and a short time later I saw the other car on the hard shoulder with said jam sandwich pulled up behind. I'm guessing he went to court and lost his licence.
I always made the assumption that the copper either thought I was more aware, or was being pushed/intimidated by the other car until I could get back in the middle lane, and hence was not tugged.
