Whining Gear box
« on: 22 February 2011, 11:16:49 »

Hi All
The Autobox on my 2.0 16v CDX (1999) is whining but only about 50mph.
It starts with a low whine about 35mph and gets worse till 50. Then goes quieter to 70-80 mph no noise at all?
Is not using any oil, (had a full change 8k ago) all functions on the box work perfectly, smooth changing, no clunking, Sport/Winter and kick-down all AOK?  :y
But has been getting gradually worse over the last 10k.

Done 5,000 with it like this including all round Ireland and Scotland and never let me down?
It is irritating but as long as it stays reliable I can live with it?
Any ideas  :o

Also, if it was the prop-shaft, can the joints be lubricated or will I have to replace them or the entire shaft?

DIFF OIL
No I haven't - in for an MOT Thursday so will get the guys to check it?
The whining seems to be from the back of the box, some may be the front prop shaft bearing?
Sound doesn't seem to be as far back as the diff?
Any thoughts  :-?
