Yep, this ones a 2000 FL, but I do remember a while back messing with a 3.2 it had a different part number.

Correct and the later part code replaces the older one (the older one had the intermittent issue with the internal re-circ setting it self on startup).

I.e. they both work fine

I know that when I replaced a late pre facelift panel with an identical early one it seemed to work but the display would show -- -- briefly upon startup. Both panels were from a saloon. When I then swapped it out for a late panel with a similar yellow dot on the back (EPC shows a VIN breakpoint) it worked perfectly.

Needless to say my local Vauxhall dealer tried to tell me that a new unit needed to be electronically paired which was clearly wrong. I assume the yellow dot indicated later firmware as both appeared otherwise identical.

The -- means fault codes are stored

Mark when I swapped the panels the -- -- fault indication cleared immeadiatly. I assumed I had fitted a panel with the wrong firmware as it was an earlier one with a different part number.

As you would expect if the second panel had no stored fault codes.

Mark as a matter of interest would a fault indication clear itself after a set number of sucessful starts with no fault present or would it need to be removed with Tech 2 ?

Not on the climate panel, on the engine ECU yes but even then its very dependent on which code it is (as some dont ever reset without a decent scan tool)
