Decent ramps?
« on: 18 March 2007, 21:42:38 »

Hello,

I had a rescent post with regards to a howling steering issue, which usually
occurs only when steering left.   I tried putting the front of the car on standard Halfords
ramps, however I can't, as given the low hight and bumper/trim on the 2.2 sport, I would
have most likely damaged or removed  the front bumper/spoiler.

I also had to remove the rear mudflaps to get the bugger on the things.

Anyone know where can I get some good ramps that can accomdate this car?

I looked for such an attachment for my ramps but could not find any around.

So I fabricated some longer ladder ramps, so that when i go up or down the standard ramps the under skirt does not catch. I used 4 lengths of angle iron approx 3 ft long. Linked across with the same angle iron to the width of the ramps. To stop the run up ramp from moving from the static ramps i placed 2 large bolts at one end of each. These then hook over the ladder type arrangement on the static ramps. By moving the run up ramp either to-wards the top or bottom of the fixed ramp you can adjust for any attachments to the vehicle.

I have used this system successfully on not only my Omega but my classic Austin Healey. ;)

May be some one out in Omega land knows of a manufacturer.

My other method is find a wooden plank from some steel scaffolding. Cut this in half. Do the same trick with the bolts through one end of each and val la, adjustable lead ramps. Be careful going up or down them though or else it could really ruin your day. ;D ;D
