Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Connects 2 boxes
« on: 08 November 2007, 13:15:40 »
Hi Guys :) I've been looking at the Connects 2 boxes - I have a 2000 Omega MV6 with the CCR2006.
I was wanting to fit a Kenwood HU which I am lifting out of my 620ti.

Browsing the website for the Connects 2 boxes for the Omega (I guess I am looking at Stalk + Display adaptors) - the choice for Kenwoods is for Single-din/early models only, and all other items are for Sony HU's.

Does anyone know if the adaptors for the newer HU's (listed for Sony only) will work/can be made to work with newer Kenwoods please? :)

If I can't get the tinker working I'll have to beat someone to death with it or something! I have had Sony headunits for many years and I cannot take any more!

Cheers again
Alex

Omega General Help / Sports cat/de-cat?
« on: 25 September 2008, 00:10:54 »
Hi guys probably been done a hundred times but couldn't turn anything up on the search.

Anyone had sports cats or de-catted their Omega? I am thinking of the x30xe's in particular but any comments welcome.

Just wondering if there are any real gains, differences or problems with the idea? I'm guessing that de-cats won't pass an MOT.

I'm going to have my exhaust fiddled with anyway and wondering if I could tie them in on a deal ;)

Hi all sorry if this has been covered a hundred times, my internet connection here is work is temperemental at best and is failing fast so must move quickly.

Over the past 3 days my engine has cut out 4 times, all in 5th gear at reasonably low RPM (first time was at 80MPH :(), and very suddenly - without warning at all really.

I am now very worried as 3 of the occasions it has cut out have been on the very busy, fast and twisty Cardiff Bay link-road and losing power, steering going heavy and brakes becoming less powerful are bad combo.

When it cuts, the engine is just below the middle of the gauge (which seems normal for mine), the revs drop to zero instantly while the speedo ticks down slowly. The alternator and oil pressure lights come on immediately (ignition still in the second position), and it takes a good 15 minutes before I can restart it. Before this, the engine will turn and turn but not fire. Last night it fired back up within 5 mins but died again instantly.

I thought it could be dodgy fuel from Tesco as I had the first problem just after adding a tenner of 95 RON, but having burnt that off and getting some optimax last night (just in case) it died again this morning so its not bad fuel.

When its restarted it runs absolutely perfectly, still getting the good MPG, still pulls strongly - all seems absolutely normal.

Would this indicate ignition or are there other things I should look for? Will be getting it on the tech2 over the weekend hopefully.... very worried indeed as its plain dangerous  :'(

Anyone else had a similar thing? Any suggestions please?

Omega General Help / Lowering [Reducing Roll] Facelift 3.0 MV6
« on: 30 June 2008, 16:58:23 »
Hi guys :)

Saw a thread on here not so long back debating lowering a facelift - does anyone have a recommended brand/supplier please?

Will be leaving OE shocks in place as they are quite new - looking for a respectable drop but nothing insane (30-50mm should do the job)

What are people's experiences with lowering please?
Looking to kill off some of that roll (which is actually quite good considering speed x mass!), but having had spinal surgery not so long back and having suffered an overlowered Maestro Turbo and a badly lowered 620ti would like to keep some smoothness to the whole affair.

Is there anything I should lookout for please? Guess facelift is different to pre, and that MV6 and Elite are not the same? (Estate and Saloon certainly cannot be?)

Ideas on a postcard please

Cheers
Alex :D

Omega General Help / "Check Coolant" Sensor gone - new tank?
« on: 03 June 2008, 14:42:26 »
Hi again all - am I right in thinking that if your sensor has gone (and cleaning doesn't work) it's new expansion-tank time please?

If so, are all petrol Omega expansion tanks the same please? Mine is a 3.0 MV6 2000 if this makes a difference.

Have shorted the sensor out and the error went away, there is plenty of lovely fresh coolant in there, bang on the mark.

Thank you
Alex

Omega General Help / Low Beam Fld/Vision
« on: 19 May 2008, 15:27:55 »
Hi all

Following a full issue with the local Vx main stealer at MOT time, I am suffering a problem with my headlights - the message Low Beam Fld/Vision comes on the display and it keeps coming back so I assume the problem remains even after some fiddling to make sure the headlight end of the wiring is secure.

I did a quick search here and it brought up the normal sensor failure (nearside front and rear); for the MOT I am sure they would have been poking around in these areas but the actual culprit involved in the MOT failure was the inside front tie rod end - on the off-side.

I have never had any kind of problem to do with these sensors and within a week of the MOT and a replacement tie rod on the other side its FUBAR'd.

Have a few quick questions at the moment....
Could the garage have mistakenly/unknowingly done anything to bring this error up?
Should I be sending it back there for inspection? Keep in mind we had a falling out...
Finally, should Tech2 be used to find which sensor (if not both) have gone, or if the motors on the headlights are dead?

The fault means the range on my lovely HID's is about 10 feet, mabye less :(

Dammit all, was having a good May until the 2nd.

Alex

Omega General Help / Handbrake button is a gonner! 2000 MV6
« on: 06 December 2007, 14:49:11 »
Hi all :)

Sorry if this has been covered before, the internet here at work is dreadful on occasion; maybe more luck searching at home later on...

The MV6 has been a delight so far - still very pleasantly surprised with all aspects of it!

Unfortunately the first problem has reared it's head, and thankfully its a very minor one really.

The handbrake button never felt rock-solid, and lunch time parking up in Tesco (woo-hoo how executive!) the handbrake button itself fell awff (in bits) - thankfully the handbrake was disengaged at the time so I could get back to work.

The spring inside with the little white plastic piece - which I guess the original button backed onto - have also come out and I cannot re-seat them, i.e. the handbrake is always off as there is no locking mechanism, and the spring and white thing which normally live behind the button are extended an inch or two past the end of the plastic handbrake lever.

How difficult a job is this one guys? I need to replace just the button ideally, and re-seat that onto the spring, and get it back inside the handbrake lever. If its anything other than simple I'm afraid someone else will have to do it for me, has anyone else had similar done please?

Thankfully Cardiff is pretty flat.

Thank you for reading
Cheers

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello!
« on: 07 November 2007, 00:34:28 »
Evening all, been prowling on the site for a couple of weeks or so and thought I should de-lurk :D

I am the proud owner of an X-plate Omega 3.0 MV6, complete with leather and driver involvement pack - must say that so far I am impressed, the comfort is incredible, the sound is beautiful, and (once moving) quite brisk indeed!

I am 24, from around the Cardiff region and interested in all things car-related, women and beer.
I work for a shipping company in Cardiff Bay so if anyone spots me on the Cardiff Bay link-road, don't do what everyone else does and dive out of my way!

Other cars I presently own are:-
MG Maestro Turbo with a tweak here and there (presently off the road awaiting re-build and de-locking; in the last 3 months it was on the road it was broken into twice - both times in Bath of all places - which caused some pretty horrid damage to both front doors). This is my second MGMT, the first one was pinched and written off while I was working at the University Hospital of Wales. Little bleeders....

Rover 620ti - sensible mods, has been my daily transport (and fun thing) for about 2 years now. I enjoyed it hugely and didn't have many problems to report at all. No HG prolems, always started, pretty "nippy" and with Vitesse Sport Wheels, lowering and decent brakes, really could do a lot more than first appeared in all departments. Spent quite a bit, which detracted from the above project.

This is the first non-turbocharged car that I have owned in a few years, I went for a change as I fancied something a touch more modern-feeling (even if it is similar to my old Carlton GSi) and comfort was high on the list - I thought I could have a bit of everything in the MV6, and I have!

The MV6 is presently running at 27-28MPG average, which isn't too bad at all for the traffic and link-road action!
One very happy motorist so far :)

I think that's about it for now - will get some pics up in the morning

Cheers for reading!
