Omega 2.5 TD Alternator Removal
« on: 15 March 2020, 10:37:04 »

Morning Guys,

My battery light is flashing in my X reg tractor and the auto electricians confirmed the alternator to be the suspect. Are there any pictures or guides on removing the alternator from the diesel engine, without removing the intake manifold? Whilst the local garages are telling me to scrap the car, I feel like it's become part of the family and just need to keep it going till these money making diesel laws come to my part London next year. :(

Thanks

It will come forward, towards the rad, but is really tight, and probably needs the battery tray bent temporarily.

Intake manifold is nice and easy to remove on the TD :)

I'll have to give it a try on Saturday morning, provided there's good weather. Do suggest getting new manifold gaskets? :)

I managed to remove and replace mine without removing ,but you will need to remove battery and bend tray into unrecognisable shapes to get it out.
It took me nearly all day to achieve, however TB reckons he can do it in an hour or so with a brew break included 😊😊
There's a thread on it somewhere from a couple of years ago.
Good luck 😊

I never did...   ...but check local BMW/LR dealer has some in stock, just in case. GM dealers wont.

I remember doing mine many years ago on my first Omega, it was an absolute pain!

In the end I bent the air-con pipes out of the way.....it never did work properly anyway.

It gave me just enough room to get the alternator out.

But yep taking the inlet manifold off is easy if you want to go that way.
