General Car Chat / Re: Can anyone talk me out of this?
« on: 02 February 2021, 21:46:07 »
I won't even try .. no comparison at all to the A6 Allroad .. but I have been impressed with it ever since I purchased it .... fun to drive, good handling, reliable, and when you want it to .. it goes !!!  ( 2 speeding tickets in France attests to that !!) .. and extremely reliable

If you want it, and can justify it to yourself ... go for it   :)

I really respect your opinions on most things, and I have read with interest your views of ownership of the A6. (more below)

Guessing timing belt as 2007, not timing chain?

Either way, expensive and probably due changing.

Have you got option for a warranty for major components?

To be honest, I've been eyeing this car up for a couple of weeks.  I've not even put a call in to the garage to ask them any questions.... but a MOT history check shows not a single advisory (except a couple of borderline tyres) in it's life.

I'm pretty sure all the 5.2's in the S6 & S8 were chain driven...... and at 116k miles, it would benefit from a change.  It's something I've factored into the first year cost of ownership.

My concern is with the general up-keep.....

I've never had a car with carbon discs, I've never owned a V10  ;D

In general, do the brakes last as long/longer than standard steel discs?

Normal service items, like Oil, Coolant, Plugs etc wont phase me, as I (as many of us) find bargains and pick them up as-and-when rather than on the day of a service.

Being a very heavy car, are there huge bills when it comes to suspension parts etc. (I seem to recall the A4 had a whacky front strut arrangement).

Decisions, decisions.

Never owned an Audi before, but driven lots and find them really rather bland.  This, however, should have a bit of a spark to it.

Am I completely mental for even thinking about it?  :-\

You'd get nowhere, I'm very confident of that. So you agree, it's not going to happen?  ::)

Stay away from Opti's obsessions, they're not healthy.

I wouldn't have predicted that Colston's statue would get tossed into the Bristol Harbour, nor that I could walk into a Gent's toilets to find a woman having a sit-down piss..... but there you go.

I like Opti, he's funny.... like you were until today!  ;)

We'll find someone willing to hold the money, and set an end date (you can't wait forever for it to happen). Are you on?
No, because I am not sad/bored enough to actually attempt it!  ::)

I believe the highest threshold for Tax in Spain is 60,000Euro and is set at 45%.

Messi will be paying more than the rest of Spain combined!  ;D

Lionel Messi tax fraud prison sentence reduced to fine http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-40534761

SO all-in-all, they paid ~9,000,000Euro in fines and 'corrective payments'.

I bet his accountant is at the bottom of the Med!  ;D

Before you post again, I'll bet you £1000 it doesn't happen.

Be careful with your money, old boy..... I could start a Twitch, Discord, ANOther rant and get this whipped up pretty easily!  :D

It's a historic quote
so not Rae's fault that some people in 2021 that can't interpret the difference between a fanny N cock   :P

Indeed.  I wonder if there will be cries for Mr Armstrong to re-record his radio transmission?  :-\

It sounds utterly crazy BM......but quite possibly. :-X
No, not possible at all.

Why do you say that?  Have all the Woke community finally got a grip of themselves?

The EU have invoked article 16, meaning that they've effectively placed a border between Northern and Southern Ireland with regards to the vaccine. Popcorn time.
Sorry, Tigger, I was repeating something you'd already posted. But, in regards to court action, I doubt the UK will be very bothered. The actual rest of the world has told us to return Chagos to Mauritius several times now, but we haven't.

The actual rest of the world except the US, which (up until recently) trumped (excuse the pun) all the others.

Hmmm.....it was French missiles that almost cost us the falklands war.

Those dafty frogs wouldn't know how to load, or fire Exocets.

If they don't put-up and shut-up, why don't we just declare war?  ;D

Last time I looked at a map, our closest EU neighbours are Ireland and France...... a single infantry unit could take those within a few hours.

My Saab(vectra) uses 5/30 fully sympathy

It does indeed.  I find mine run hotter than standard (remaps), and neither are young cars, so I use 5w40.  :y

General Car Chat / Re: The annual insurance debacle.
« on: 26 January 2021, 15:31:15 »
Yes it happens every year!

Just got off the phone to the AA about my insurance renewal and, as usual, got them to reduce my fully comp, legal protection, monthly payment interest, loan car, low excesses, etc, etc, premium by £80 over the year to actually better (allowing for the "extra" benefits gained) quotes via Confused.com.

I never have to go into full argument mode as the AA staff listen, treat me like a valued customer, and give me quickly what I am looking for. 8) 8) :D :D :y

It's just frustrating that you should have to contact them at all.  I understand how business works, and every business is there to make money, but to prey on those who do not have technology at their fingertips (to check things like comparison websites) is just nasty.

I feel genuinely sorry for 'real women' who may be forced to compete against 'chicks with dicks' all in the name of wokeness and political correctness.

I know Sharon Davies and Paula Ratcliffe amongst others have spoken out about this.

Sharron Davies and Paula Radcliffe  ::)
