General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 16 December 2020, 23:30:36 »

So, are the Uniroyals better than Avons then ?  :-\

I know this question wasn't aimed at me, but;

I have Uniroyal RS3's on the entire fleet.  310bhp and 470nm on a FWD car.  I struggle to break traction in 3rd, and despite their softer compound, they last for ages (9k front, 22k rear) and I drive very hard.

While it wouldn't be my first choice of colour, the interior doesn't offend me......

I see it as a plus, really.  At least it's never been near a farm and therefore doesn't smell like a farm.

you don't see many farmers driving Discoveries around here. They mostly favour Ford Rangers, with L200s a distant second.

Discos are for taking kids to school and the riding stables.

Farmers around here (Somerset) drive Tractors.

I do get the Horse'y type MILF driving a Disco though.  :D

It's probably never been off the black stuff.  ::)

Mounted a kerb or two!  :D

Just to add my opinion (I know others differ on here), if you are using a fully updated version of Windows 10, and allow Automatic Updates (or are slightly tech savvy and manually update daily) then there is no need whatsoever for any third party AntiVirus/Malware/Spyware software.

IMO, it is just bloatware, which takes up valuable system resources.

It's cold outside, meaning the heaters in the car are on.  Peugeot Dashboard and extra heat are not best friends.

We've got a couple of the new Peugeot Experts (van) in work, and as soon as the cold weather hits, the Stereo (also a SatNav) shits itself.

Omega General Help / Re: Wheel in motion Franchises besides Chesham

I seem to remember WIM stopped the franchise experiment several years ago, due to lack of control of quality impacting on their reputation.
Best approach is to make sure everything is freed of, then take the car and a copy of WIM settings to a place with a Hunter alignment machine and give them the settings, and asking them to ignore the green / red bollix and set the ar up to those settings.

^^ This is top advice.

Many garages have invested a lot of money in these top-of-the-line alignment machines, but spent a fiver per hour on the knuckle dragger using it.

« on: 02 December 2020, 18:51:53 »
Just seen a black woman on the news who wants to know if the vaccine will be safe for ethnic minorities , no doubt this will be another form of racism nonsense .

I watched that too.  Just previous, the 'Emily' woman said that of the third of people less-likely or unsure of receiving the vaccine, the majority were female, or those from ethnic minorities.

So, BatFlu is more likely to kill you if you are of Colour, but you are less likely to agree to the vaccine.   ::)

Why it is such a good pension, btw, is that while she contributes 11.7% of her salary, her employer contributes another ~13%, meaning there is a total of ~25% of her salary going into the scheme.

I'm guessing that ~13% is coming directly from the taxpayers pocket?

This is a good design.  :)

Open the flap, push your nozzle in and fill her up!  :y

It's not good, it's bloody brilliant.

The Saab has the slot to store the cap like the Vx, but the flange of the pump knocks it off, so I just leave it dangling by it's strap.  ;D

£15-20 an hour when I did mine in '94/5... £30 an hour now is pretty reasonable in the scheme of things.

HGV lessons are about £60 an hour...

Indeed.  £30 an hour sounds like a reasonable income, especially for someone who can pick and choose when they work, but, when you look at how the cost of fuel, insurance etc has rocketed over the years......

Certainly not a job I could do either..... I'd lose my rag (and probably my liberty) in minutes!  ;D

General Car Chat / Re: Admiral warning
« on: 25 November 2020, 15:26:06 »
Just checked my Admiral policy, and it states that the Policyholder Only can drive other vehicles;

The policyholder may also drive with the consent of the owner of a private motor car as long as the other car is not a hire or rental car, is not owned by you or your partner nor obtained by you or your partner under a hire purchase or lease agreement, within our territorial limits, providing there is a valid insurance policy in force for that car. The cover is Third party only.

Me and SWMBO are named drivers on eachothers policies, so irrelivent to us, but if we weren't, I wouldn't be able to drive her car, but I could drive my nextdooor neighbours car (with their permission).

The Insurance Company thinks it's being clever by doing this, but in-fact, we both save money (reduced permium) by adding eachother onto our own policies.  I guess this would change somewhat if we didn't have impecible driving records!
