Is that not an example of a) Stupid use of statisitics, b) a "self fulfilling" prophesy ??

If you are that ill that you cannot breathe for yourself, which is why someone is put on a ventilator, the chances of survival are slim in any case, as without the ventilator you will not breathe and you will die. The fact that 20% of those who cannot breathe recover when ventilated is a SUCCESS .. not some failure.

If you cannot breathe for yourself an oxygen mask will achieve the square root of opps-all.... you will die

Very similar misguided use of "data" is presently being forced down our throats regarding nursing homes ...

Known facts -

1) This virus attacks the old and the vulnerable in great numbers .. 91% of the fatalities are aged over 60

2) The population of nursing/care homes is mainly the old and infirm .. thats why they need nursing and care !

3) Many nursing home residents with underlying conditions have signed "Do Not Resuscitate" orders ... so if they get taken ill they are not taken to hospital but are allowed to pass with dignity.

Taking those simple facts, it is not at all surprising that elderly, infirm folk in nursing/care homes are passing ... but for some reason it is now "The Governments' Fault"

All this "data" seems to have robbed the world of the ability to think and use any form of logic whatsoever.

To clarify - Covid patients aren't the position where they cant breathe for themselves. The problem is the oxygen getting from the lungs out to the vital organs. Covid causes a yellow mucus substance to coat the inside of the lungs and slows the release of oxygen from the lungs into the body.
To sedate the patient and then force lots of oxygen into the lungs just wrecks the lungs.
Better to keep them conscious and give them a low pressure supply of oxygen* to assist the process until they start to recover.
A NYC doctor has made a video about this which is on YouTube if anyone wants to take a look at it.
So nothing to do with data or statistics, apart from the fact that he got very curious about why most patients died once put on a ventilator and decided to give it a lot of thought in order to find out why this was so.
* This can be provided by a ventilator, but a ventilator is usually used under higher pressure . Much easier to just use an oxygen mask.

With all due respect for this doctor, I think it needs a lot more research, papers written by other top medical professionals, and general agreement or not before this suggestion is taken seriously.

With senior doctors, surgeons, and professors in their field across the World currently supporting the use of ventilators nothing can change.

The fact is many patients ARE surviving the virus, as Entwood made clear, after being placed on one of these machines and given the care that is the current practice in the developed World.

I'll personally await the reports from the medical profession. Too much mis-information is being fed across the media and internet!

The Governor of New York state holds a press conference every day, and every day he tells the media that 80% of patients who are treated by intubated ventilation don't recover.
Boris Johnson was treated with low pressure oxygen through a mask rather than a ventilator and recovered quickly, as do many other people.
There was a lot of headless chicken syndrome among Govts. and the medical profession when this virus came out of China (probably understandably so) and I think you will find that in the very near future ventilators will drop out of treatment for Covid once they have had a chance to catch their breath and have time to investigate the issue further.

"News" headlines are full of the "fact" that there is a shortage of PPE .. and that the delivery from Turkey is delayed (but they don't tell us why ......) ...so ...
