In my mis spent youth I spent alot time playing with verious taxi meters and the good old Vas Car system, it's just not too sure if I can calibrate the carin to some thing else...

I'll have a look in the menus tomorrow, any one remeber the pin code for the carin?

The speed pulses are vital - remember that Carin uses speed pulses, direction (ie reverse or forward) and gyroscopes as its primary locator, sats being secondary.

So the "Brain" is pre set to expect a set number of a given distance... mmm

Might have to re think this one

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Odd question for Carin Sat nav...
« on: 19 October 2008, 17:41:09 »
I know the system was used in a few motors over the years but if I was to use the "Brain" in a diffren make of car, would the speed pluse been a diffrent amount over a fixed distance make a difference?

The pluse is of the same wave form just about 800 pluses a mile diffent.

I was thinking does the speed pluse only work to tell the Carin it's "moving" or does it use it as a true messure of distance?

all v6 should have the tc button anyway, only 4 cylinder and diesels dont

It's unlikly to have TC in the first place been a 2ltr 4 pot engine, chances are there will be no loom to plug into

them after market hid kits will eventually blow the light switch up and melt the wires my mate has a vectra b that he done this to and today i have spent most of the day rewiring the lights!

Can't see how that happens as they pull less wattage... - unless it's a dodgy balast

You should have projecter lens so you can add a aftermarket HID kit, I've done this, took 15 mins to fit and the best £40 ever spent, but there are legaly "grey" at best.

Not even grey. Utterly illegal.

Grey is retrofitting proper HID units - ie, HID headlamps off a HID equipped car.

Fair point...

Cool, £0 saved. Mind you I was getting all excited about even brighter headlights then. :-/

Could be worth changing the bulbs though

I use 6500k in mine, nice and bluey white - I think standed they would be 4000k Yellow / white, brighter but not as sharp IMHO

Is that the bulbs inside the bowl shaped lens? What's the net effect of this upgrade?

Oh, and what does the ballast do and where can I get them?

Yeah the projector bulb, you can get a full upgrade kit, with the HID bulbs and balasts from ebay for £30 upwards.

The difference is amazing, I use the Omega to add light when doing night shots now as the light is almost daylight like.

The range, the sharpness the colour is so much better - I'll stick a normal blub in tonight and do some pics to show the difference later
