I have bought a GPS antenna from ebay because the factory fit one stopped working. I've tried it with the head unit out and it works. But I cant work out how to route the cable at the back. thanks for any advice. Dave

Follow the cabling from the stereo to behind the glove box, then up the inside of the l/h "A" pillar to the roof, then along the inside if the lining to the courtesy light. Fit it behind the courtesy light facing the windscreen, then it will get the best signal, and won't disturb the original unit and look naff.
(have done this on two now, and works well.)

Just make sure that its upwards "view" is not impaired by anything metallic. We usually mount them under the dash plastics behind the clocks or rear shelf. Covering them with plastic panels or carpets is fine, but make sure that they are mounted flat and with a good clear view of the sky.

Mine is on dash by tax disc. Others have mounted behind dash clocks.
Wire feeds behind glovebox, through hole in cage into HU.
As you push HU back in, gently pull the wire from glovebox region (seeing as the plug won't 'clip in' to cage).

Thanks for all the help, I've done it now. I went for the on the dash method. Its all working well again now :). And thanks to TB for pointing me in the right direction for the antenna on ebay :y
