Omega General Help / Re: Removing the injector bridge

I was thinking of this one from Welung666:
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=41840.msg632445#msg632445

Anyway, thanks Rob, I still don't know how you manage to get there so fast every time - is there a knack?  8)

Yes, there are cutouts and there is a knack - I'll find the relevant post in a mo, assuming Rob doesn't get there first.  ;)

New wiper blades all round on the Corsa and the Omega. GM ones fitted instead of the horrid clunky Ebay Aero wipers.

Much better  :y :y

Just reminded me - shoved new Vx wipers on mine the other day.  I was surprised to find they are much better than the previous Bosch ones were, even when they were new.   :y

The dreaded Screwfix have one reduced to £69.99 just now - no idea if it is any good but it is Triton.

I'd rig something up using a 15mm T if in the UK.  Last time I did any plumbing in France they used all even numbered pipe sizes - 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 18mm etc. (And soldered them into each other to fabricate reducers!).  If you know that it's just 15mm in Spain, ignore this post (like the rest of mine - I know  ::))  Otherwise it might be worth checking the diameters on the HBV first.

Hatfield, Herts - according to Google.  Fat lot of use in Liverpool, though  :(

Haven't used this one but have tried the giant mastic gun type.  It certainly gave reasonable results despite my lack of skill, although the nozzle was too small and the constant pumping was tedious - things that seem to have been addressed with the "pointmaster".

The secret of success was mixing to the right consistency.  Plasticiser is very important to avoid constipation.   ;)

I'd give it a try if I had a big old stone wall.   :y

Omega General Help / Re: Cambelt going ?
« on: 01 November 2011, 10:55:22 »
No probs - probably good to be clear!

 - Petrol V6 - water pump driven by aux belt, albeit partially buried in cam belt cover
 - Petrol 4-pots - water pump driven by cam belt
 - Oil fired engines - haven't a clue  ::)

Omega General Help / Re: Too many tubes at the back of my engine
« on: 30 October 2011, 22:29:50 »
The device is the purge valve, one pipe as you say goes to the charcoal canister in the driver`s wing area, the other should be connected to the breather box, looking from front, the 3rd outlet counting from L to R

Ah yes - that makes a lot more sense.  Sorry if my suggestion was misleading!

+1 for auto box breather - shouldn't be connected to anything.

It couldn't be the twisty little pipe to the rear multiram could it?

Any chance of a picture?

Ribbed belt = aux belt, runs the water pump, alternator, power steering pump and air-con pump.

If it is the water pump, this can be done without disturbing the cam belt.  However you have almost dismantled down to the cam belt anyway so I would be tempted to put in a new cam belt kit whilst in the area if it is getting anywhere near due.

Wow!  I thought that was going to be a simple question.  Thanks for replies, very interesting.  I'll put in one last plea for her to get 4 matching tyres and, failing that, put the mid-prices on the front even though it's counter to my intuition.

As for skid pans - sounds great, I've always wanted to try one out.  There have been a few moments over the years but, so far, I've always been able to collect them up somehow.  And, like us all I imagine, spent some time in my younger years playing SBs on gravel and grass car parks.  But it would be good to do the job properly - me and my daughter.   :)

Omega General Help / Re: Oil Consumption
« on: 30 October 2011, 16:18:33 »
Page 216 of the owner's manual gives up to 0.6l per 1000km i.e. 1l per 1000 miles as the official spec.  So your friend's 2.2 is officially borderline.  (Owners manual at http://images.omegaowners.com/documents/UserGuides/OmegaOct2002.pdf - a few megs to download)

If you ask me this is pure backside covering from GM as most petrol Omegas don't need to be topped up at all between their 5000 mile oil changes.  So something is starting to go wrong IMHO.  I would start by finding out where the oil is going - main possibilities being dribbling down the engine, a big puff of smoke first start of the morning, or burned off during normal driving.

Nope - pedal trick was clear then and is still clear now.

General Car Chat / Tyre position
« on: 28 October 2011, 19:47:06 »
My daughter is about to buy 4 new tyres for her Pug 106.  She is on a budget so the local tyre place suggested 2 good ones on the rear and 2 cheaper ones on the front - reasoning that she would have trouble controlling a rear wheel skid.

I reckon this is barmy - if you're going down that road you want the good ones on the front, where the drive is, the weight is and most of the braking is.  But I'm only a dad, not a tyre salesman, so I know nothing.   ???

What do you reckon?
