An update on my V6
« on: 22 December 2009, 22:08:45 »

Brief history - top end rebuld done, in full, to cure blowing exhaust manifold gasket, and unknown leak.

3.2 manifolds were fitted, inlet ports carefully filed, 3.0 inlet divider, 3.0 cams, and so on. Existing cats, I grinded off the flange where it meets the manifold a bit, to make it fit. New DIS too, and all seals.

Anyhow, when I put it all together, tried to fire her up, she coughed and popped a bit, but nothing happened.

Next morning, fully charged battery and a can of petrol, and she started like she'd not been stood. No lifter noise, sounded sweet as anything  8-)

After about 20 mins idling, she just cut out. Did this a few times. Idle hunted a bit too. I put some more fuel in, and drove about 20 miles, and it's been fine since.

I've covered around 300 miles, and it's been great.

I've owned a lot of these omegas, both 2.5 and 3.0, and I can honestly say this feels more like a 3.0 in terms of performance, and it makes a lovely V6 noise  8-)

It starts on the coldest of mornings, first time, no fuss :)

The blower didn't work when it was very first started. I reckon it was frozen from standing so long, as it came to life once the engine warmed up and has been fine since!

Only slight negative, today, some silly cow idiotted into my rear bumper on the M4 - she was too busy texting and didn't see the traffic stop  >:(

Thankfully - low speed impact, no visible damage at all. My car will be FULLY checked, at the expense of her insurance company though - just to be totally sure !!!

Obviously, a new cambelt kit was fitted too, along with water pump :)

It's actually a fixed-idler kit, but it works fine on a later 2.5/3.0 V6.

Also nice to see all the secondary air injection bits in the bin  ;D

That's great news, glad to hear it James!
It does fascinate me that given anything, you can take it apart, tinker, put it back together and it's as good as new.

That is what I find with my 2.6 except for low end torque - top end is similar
