Its because the chemicals and lead that used to stabilize the paints of old are not allowed today.

Where is he???On hollybobs for a while, so I've been told (whistle's nonchalantly)
He be on piston-heads, lurking in the shadows on here.
You did the same as me and mine split , i just put a bit more leverage on the cap and it split enough to turn by hand . This is why i will never go back to these cartridge filters , too much faffing about . I did the spin on conversion and never looked back
Use a chain or filter strap on the housing if its spinning.
The cap is knackered now and stealers wanted £35 ish for a new cap unless you can source a second hand one .
Seems to be a mass panic about changing these,The filter insert ones are the work of the devil
Try getting a housing off that's just spinning
You won't regrets doing the mod to the spin on
I changed cartridge filters in my V6 for 10 + years with no problems at all ....... I don't know what the problem is with them
I'm with you on this, if they are fitted and torqued correctly, no problems...
. Than 25nm or is it 15nm. Never had one leak yet.Where is it leaking from did you use a genuine filter? I did mine and have had no problems at allIf fitted correctly, and torque'd correctly, pattern or genuine, wouldn't make a difference.
Think your confusing a spin on canister with the cartridge insert.
Spin is 3/4 hand tight, cartridge is inside alloy housing then torqued up.
I have had some patent ones leak because the rubber seal was not brilliant and I couldn't get it any tighter
Spin on to touch then tighten 3/4 is correct but it dripped and I tightened them over full turn so changed for another patent one and okay on both times.
