.....- I just can't muster much confidence in the 24v engine.

My 24v Senator went to 180k in my ownership with no problems at all ..........apart from the usuall HG at around 150k
Dont get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that a well maintained engine cant be good for a fair few miles, but it's getting very hard to find one that has been properly maintained for most of it's life.

That and the parts being hard to come by are what put me off.

I liked the Senny.

Fastest I had been in a production car in was 1992 (164 or thereby) until I had a blat in a police spec Evo around 2003/4 which matched it.

Given the percentage metal around both, 20/20 hindsight makes me prefer the Senny.

Long live the memory of H98LFS!!    ;D

The one on Autotrader has been on sale for years and the seller won't budge on the price. If you want it that's what it is. He's probably spent 10k on advertising since the first time I saw it  ::) ::) ::) Other two are about right on price however for that kind of money you will still be taking risks which could cost you a fortune to put right. More and more parts are no longer available. The most critical being the plastic timing chain guides used. It won't be long and the straight 6 engine will be good for nothing more than a good coffee table  :'( :'( :'( :'(

We're seeing this already & the latest cars are just 7 years old from build date.

I'm sure you are but it's the everyday items which are becoming a pain. If it wasn't ABS we'd be short a lot more parts. Even things like HT leads would be a pain. My best mileage 24v straight 6 lump covered 209k miles before a big end went. I rebuilt that engine in fact i still have it!!! It's on a trolley in my garage with the bores full of oil waiting to go into my gsi Carlie I have.

I'll not be making the mistake of letting my Carlton go.
I'll be rebuilding her over the summer but using all standard GM parts (except the exhaust) - mostly used unfortunately.

I have even managed to source a Sportstyle from and rear skirt for it - anyone know of any Sportstyle sill trims?

(yeah right)    ::)

Utterly pointless owning one of these after what i/we where were driven in on Monday. Almost another 1/3 as much power again, and for less money. Although it did have some "goodies" under the bonet. ;D

Apart from the very valid nostalgia reasons of course. ;)

Hang on... Justify it?  That was you in the back wasn't it? I mean, you where there, at the time, in pearson. ...?

What else do you need to justify it? As that bloke said in ...what ever film it was... This here shit sells itself. I also have neck ache now, as well as back and leg ache. ;D
