basically its a ford KA and as such shares lots of components especially underneath/ mechanically so should be reliable enough for what it is . sister in law had one ( and a KA more recently and had no real issues other than a faulty throttle pedal) daughter has a KA at the moment and it seems to survive the abuse it gets !
it also basically the same as a panda too in lots of respects .
not the most refined of cars in terms of comfort or tyre noise but fun enough to drive .

sounds like you need a diagnostic tech who can use a scope . he should scope the starter main power feed and the casing to check for any power or earth dropouts during cranking.if there's a bad connection this will show up .
obviously if nothing shows then a current test and simulated cranking compression test should show any issues internally with the starter or otherwise .
that's the basics out of the way . after that it would be nice to see the actual crank and cam angles

i think it depends on the actual reader especially if it's just a cheaper no frills one . mine only reads basic info with ign on but with engine running will do g box codes as well .

did the noise just suddenly happen whilst driving or did it occur after a few repeated short starts such as moving it around the yard etc . a stiff lifter can sometimes make a noise after this and once the engine warms up the lifter will usually start to adjust itself as normal.
oil starvation from the pick up pipe is a common issue but can be checked with a pressure guage anyway .

whats the actual fault on yours ? brushes or solenoid ?
id be inclined to repair the original . better chance of it bring more reliable than an aftermarket or recon and you woudnt know the history of a scrappy one !

this is one of those nightmare jobs that can be hard to trace, not all leaks drip where the water is actually coming through either which makes finding it worse.
as others have said maybee lay in the boot ( when its chucking it down too if a hose doesnt recreate it !)
possabilities.
boot lip seal,rear window seal,roof areal,any of the rear lights,side pillar under areas ?,double skinned area between bottom of rear window and seal lip .
if you take the spare wheel and carpet out and start with an empty and dry floor you might see where it runs / drips from .

unless the camber issue / damage happened a while back and toe has been subsequently reset .
does it drive fine ?  does it wear tyres ?   ( a certain amount of neg camber on drivers side compared to other side would actually help the car drive straight on our cambered roads )

yes i would agree with that . the original balljoints are usually long lasting and good quality . if there is still a degree of stiffness in their movement i would just carefully examine the boot and regrease . some aftermarket stuff doesnt last long !

i did that to my gear surround and the door switch surrounds ( all back to nice shiny non sticky plastic ) but never tried my buttons as theyre not that bad a the moment   will compare the vectra ones thou for any form of cover swapability !

as nick mentions it wouldnt do any harm to purchase some but not nesesarlily fit them yet.
if the rear springs are indeed selflevelling versions and the self levelling is not working then you would expect the rear of the car to be too low as it is now. or even look not too bad unloaded but be way too low with any passengers in the back ?   
if the rear level is good however then it suggests the rear springs are std versions. ( maybee aftermarket that just happen to have those letters printed on ? )
springs dont physically "wear out " as such but can become weak over time and the indication of this is a drop in level .  a spring  cannot technically become weak and stay at  the same height.
same scenario with the fronts. if the ride height is correct then the springs are good. yes they could snap tommorow. but so could a new one too !

it all sounds very likely especially if the car had never experienced any issues at all untill you put the can of fuel in it.  modern fuel doesnt keep very well compared to what it used to .
i remember draining the tankof a car  that i hadnt used for a few years and tried to use the fuel up by putting just one can in a car with half a tank of current fuel in it. it was definately a bit jerky afterwards for a while ?   
time will tell !

so if im reading this correctly ....... you have now fitted a cl ecu from a donor car and all the central locking now works fine ? ( using your original 'keys' and the new donor push button sections .
if this is correct then obviously it sounds like there was a fault in the original unit . so realy that means " job done / cl fixed . presume you just want the original fixed as a spare ?

ive been with british gas for both for many years and just pay the quarterly bill at the post office when they send it . even thou i get the occasional meter reader round its pretty much always an estimated bill and is more of less correct !
