Why does the colour of an inanimate object make you angry? :-\

We all have nipples, ... we are not all black.

The way things are going, M&S won't be selling clothes for too much longer, so no mannequins needed.
Then you can go into their food store and complain that there's black pudding everywhere.  ;D

I noticed that whilst in Banburyshire yesterday.  And it wasn't just M&S either. About half the shops were the same.

Surely, if they are aiming to be PC, surely 87% should be white?  But like so many larger businesses now, they manage to get it wrong (I've spent 30yrs in a company that promotes positive discrimination).

Instead, they have made it a bit obvious, and highlighted it, and IMHO completely missed the mark.  I think they run a big risk of alienating their core customer by making something out of a non issue.

Over-representation of the etbnics is rife on television too; hardly an advert goes by without the majority of characters being black, and dramas such as EastEnders, Casualty and Holby have very few white actors. Some scenes give the impression of being filmed in another country!

So presumably when they all used to be white, it used to leave you in a similarly irate state? I only ask because I must have missed the thread where you mentioned it.

Watch the ads on TV.

It seems that these days every white girl has a black boyfriend, and that every white wife has a black husband.

It's 'overdone' PC to show we all live in an equal inclusive society.

Why would I make a thread about white ones? That’s what I expect to see in this country.

.
Agreed, plus the mandatory gay boy, lesbian, transvestite, etc on most tv shows.

This is the official reason why black Mannequins have become so popular:

"Black mannequins are in high demand within the retail world. Their colour serves to make them look less lifelike and more abstract. This way the customers' attention will be on the clothes displayed on the mannequins' bodies."

When you think about this it may very well be true.  It is also the way architects have gone with their "artist impressions"  of planned buildings, such as offices and shopping centres.  The 'people' are  represented by black silhouettes in their shape, so they do not detract from the important feature in the picture, the buildings themselves ;)

Britain has gone so far the other way on equality, race and so on.

spain is about twenty years behind maybe fifty in some areas. Recently the first prize in a womens squash tournament was legwax and a vibrator.

Solar power, Ron. We need to be environmentally friendly these days.

........not sure a vibrator will get much sunlight where it is going to be used though. :)

I know that ITV's Midsomer Murders got slated a few years back, for not having many ethnic characters. The producer at the time, Brian True-May, suggested that was due to the fact small country villages did not really have metropolitan communities, which I believe he is right.

Needless to say, that same programme, under a different producer, now has a significant number of such characters, and lost any realism it may have had.

Programmes set in more metropolitan areas - generally the big cities - should have a proportional spread of characters.

As said earlier, having positive discrimination will alienate many, and undo all the good progress that has been made over the last couple of decades, be it colour, gender, sexual orientation, whatever.

I don't see the problem, although my white wife was worried that she might be racist because didn't want to go to Bradford to look at a "fully loaded" astra in a back street dealers.  It was just down the road from KAHN head quarters, and would almost definitely be being sold by a local, many of whom won't be white.

I assured her that what she had was actually a rational hatred of used car dealers, whether white, black, pink, beige, or brown, or yella.

And lo it cake to pass, we went to bolton, got lied to by a white lancashire lad, went to blackburn and saw a car that was dodgy, but the Muslim salesboy was amusing, and helpful, and then to accrington, where the Dealer had the nicest accent I've heard, the car was great, and he seemed as honest as it's possible to be in his trade but looked like a stereotypical terrorist. (handbrake caused wife pain)

So we went to a Franchised Dealer in Cheshire and thought the sales manager might be 15 years old.

Buying a used car, any used car, neatly summarised in one sentence ;D ;D
