General Car Chat / Hybrids - MPG
« on: 05 April 2021, 22:53:39 »
I keep glancing at auto trader and simply being nosy started comparing Hyprids.

BMW 7 series
Porche Cayenne/Panamero
Volvo
Mercs

All in the 100/120+ Mpg even one mentioned 200mpg (cant remeber which)

Even the Range rovers. 2.0 engine all arround the 400bhp mark

We know these cars go like the clappers but what do they actually return in realistic MPG figures.

Does any one own a Hyprid.  If so how do the paper figures compare to real driving?

General Discussion Area / I Want One Of These (RECYCLING)
« on: 02 April 2021, 08:52:35 »
Over the years I have been facinated with machiney & technology like most of us.

If I had the space and the the money I would probably have a 3D printer, CNC laser/engraver and aim to make a few quid from it. 8)

When the car scrapage scheme started and they started storing cars on disused airfields so I drempt of wining the lottery and buying a car crusher & a metal shredder.
 :'(
Just having the daily look on YT I see loads of videos of these mini shredders (most of them fail H&S on the drive train alone) but imagine how efficient a household or street could become on recycling each week.

My monthly bin collection over flows with ali cans every month, sadly not worth much these days, but years ago we used to get 1p per can collecting them for the scouts. if prices were the same that would be a few quid back evey year.  ::)

My last neighbers blue basket was over filled with wine bottles every week.  How many people on a street have the same problem, cans, bottles and plastic bottles. (evem crushing the bottles she would gain 3 times the capacity.)

We are requested to sort our waste into different bins each week, we have 3 bins in our local area, Pink lid for non recyling items, black for Plastic/glass/metal and green for card board etc.

Friends on mine in different areas have more bins with more definition on what to put in them. seperate glass/metal, and others for plastic etc.

If councels are making money from our trash, then how much more money would they make or save if they gave cash incetives (Rate reductions even) so that we got someting back for actually doing part of thier work for them.  Like the old days of getting money back on beer & pop bottles.  When there was an incentive you never saw rubbish laying in the streets of parks (Typical of the bank holiday news being reported thsi weekend)

Yes there is danger in using these machines so not the sort of thing you would let the the kids use to recycle with

. . . . or do I just stick to stamping on each can to put it in the bin. ::)

General Discussion Area / Thoughts - Parking Soloutions
« on: 30 March 2021, 09:45:08 »
(THIS is meant as FUN and no way would I condone these actions (unless I had won the lottery and owned a forklift truck))

Over the years there have been many posts regards drives geting blocked, etc etc. :'(

If a street/road has serial bad parkers on it then why dont residents club together and invest in a set of wheel rollers and a trolly jack. 8)

Team of 5

1 on the trolly jack
2  on the wheels (Front/back)
2 monitoring traffic and placing cones.

Wear hard hats and high viz jackets to look official. :y

When its on the trollys it can be moved out of the way.  Then if it could be made legal then wheel clamp for a relaese fee and donate the proceeds to charitys .

3 things sorted in one go.

Keeps access of drives clear. :y
Keeps do gooders busy. :y
Aids charity funding. :y

I am sure Opti & Stemo will come with more severe ways of dealing with possible ways of dealing with a problem like this

General Discussion Area / Mobile Phone Reception
« on: 28 March 2021, 09:56:45 »
I have 3 mobile numbers Three/O2/Plusnet

I live band in the centre where 3 masts triangulate but yet need a booster to make calls with Three. :-\

I tried vodaphone, that wouldnt even dial out.  but upstairs would work fine. :-X

I can drive from village to village and do the Okla speed test (Basic I know) and get less than 1Mb/s in one village and 70 plus is the next, try annother mobile vice versa on the speeds.

Try logging into my bank only 1 of any of the 3 will work to gain access depending on location. :-\

When 4g then 5g came available I seemed to notice that reception weaked and call qualiitys wavered.  Maybe its me, just seemed they turned the transmitting power down to benifit the newer standards each time

or

Just seen them cooking Fish n Chips from a 60's show on tv and it took me back to the days when I were a lad and we were visiting Grannys for the weekend.  Dad took me to the local chippy in Langley Park and I will never forget they were cooking the food in dripping on a coke fired cooking range

There were 2 older ladies running the shop, one cooking and stokeing the fire, the other serving.  As nice as fish & chips are today these were the best I have ever had. :y :y

The next best, Other Granny we were in Cullen, Dad decided to treat all the visiting family to the chippy, me and my cousin were sent off with the "List" and £20 (old money)

There were 9 fish suppers (2 fish each), 2 x pie & chips, sausage n chips x 3, 2 bags of chips & quite a few cartons of peas and as a favour to us the rest of the chips in the warmer , the 2 customers behind us had allready left as they were told shey were done frying for the day.

Plus we came back with some change.  Good day all round. :y

Been contemplating buying a couple of items towards building myself a new PC (Wont be for a while yet) but the parts I buy can be used in my current PC (Faster/more RAM and a bigger M2 Drive (Gen4)) ::)

Added them to the basket + next day delivery.  Found cheaper RAM at another retailer so emailed my supplier and got a price match (Gets me over £18 back).  Then as you do I had a nosy round to see what was on offer, found a kingston USB 3.2 256GB (£36(5 Year warranty)) whist cossidering the USB the buggers have put the carriage price up :-\
