Many thanks anyway. Theres only 2 things ive done recently before the problem started,  that is to replace the MAF sensor and EGR valve. What may be significant is that there was a 2nd pipe on the old egr valve that seemeg to go nowhere. We thought it was just a drain so we left it hanging. When we bought the second car a mark 1 Omega we saw that the same pipe was attached to something near the bulkhead so we did the same with this car. I think ill disconnect the pipe sgain and see what that does.

My french registered 2001 2.5td manual has started cutting out completely at random when im driving. It happens maybe 1 day then its ok for a few days. It is normally when im on a trailing throttle. She starts inmediately then runs fine.
Im concerned as losing the p.a.s suddenly is a real shock. Has anyone any ideas what this might be.

Just to update you all. It was in fact the pump. Very helpful Bosch specialist whipped it off fixed it up and recalibrated and replaced it. I had new glow plugs put in at the same time. My wallet is £700 lighter. I'm collecting her at the weekend so ill give you an update on how she is after the 'heart transplant'

She goes into my local landrover specialist tomorrow just to confirm the diagnosis. Ive had a quote of a grand from a bosch specialist to remove, renovate and refit.  Might seem mad to spend that on a 1996 car  but I got her up on the hoist at the weekend to inspect her bottom and I was surprised by the lack of any major corrosion. A weekend with the rust killer and then a coat of hammerite and she will have years left in her so I guess its worth the investment.
BTW the single post hoist that I bought earlier this year has changed my life. My brother and I can finally walk under our cars and inspect them without having to crawl around on our backs. Brakes can be done standing up and oil changes are a doddle. I can really recommend them.

Omega General Help / Diesel Pump 2.5TD

  I fear my Injector Pump is about to expire. Not only is it noisy it is emitting a knock. The engine has done 185k miles and is as sweet as a nut and the body is good so I think its worth replacing. Does anyone know the make and model of pump? (the car is 1996) and anyone who refurbishes these pumps or supplies remanufactured ones.

 I just wanted to say hello as I have just joined. Own both a facelift estate 2.5TD Opel left hand drive that is French registered 200k KM and a 1996 2.5CD TD Estate 185k Miles. I have many cars from rover 800s to XJ40 Jags but I find the comfort and economy of the big Omegas incomparable on long runs to France.
