Fitted new rear discs and pads to Deb's Coupe and found it wasn't the handbrake that needed adjusting(it's not a German car, so is done by turning one readily accessible nut inside the car) but that all four sliders and one of the pistons were seized. 2.5 hours for a 30 minute job.

And I couldn't stand the grime, so I've polished it. Turns out it's dark blue and not grey.

Regulator arrived so I fitted it to the alternator and banged it all back together again.  :y  Not a bad little job really but I do marvel at the easy access of the top bolt. It's a right little gem is that.   ::) ;D

Air-con is blowing about 17 degrees C & needs to be colder.
Not sure what to expect  :-\ but what the hell.
STP  Auto freeze air-con recharge 532 ml. with flexi pipe adaptor & pressure guage built-in.
Blurb says "replaces gas & oil lost from the system with moisture & acid eliminator  ???
Connect just the pipe with it`s built in pressure guage, start the car & I`m reading to the lower end of the green segment on the pressure scale.
Bike Gloves & helmet on & connect the flexi-pipe to the top of the gas bottle & connect to the low pressure port. Engine on & jiggle the bottle around as I pull the trigger in 10 second intervals until the bottle is empty.
Air is now blowing 8 degrees C & holding.

Unfortunately you now have no idea of how much oil and refrigerant (gas) is in the system at all, and any moisture that was in the system is still there (you can't "eliminate" moisture by adding gas) .... so .. do you have enough gas/oil ?? or too much gas/oil ???  :(

The only "correct" way to refill a system is to empty it, preferably using a machine to reclaim whatever it gets out as venting to atmosphere is illegal, as the amount of oil removed is then measured, the system is then "vacced" down which removes any moisture (applying heat to the filter/drier at this point using an electrical paint stripper type implement is a good idea). Some places will "hold" the vac for a length of time as a "leak test" (its illegal to refill a system with a known leak) but this is no real test as when running the system produces high pressures not high vacuums (it blows out of seals rather than sucking against them) but as a rough check I guess it has its uses. The system is then refilled with a KNOWN quantity of gas and a KNOWN quantity of oil.

At around £40 a "proper" refill is, IMHO, a far more economic solution than the "stick a bottle of cheap gas" in it approach .... but each to their own I guess ....

Had my Hyundai re gassed & checked at the main agent about 3 weeks ago £39.95 they asked me to take it back after a week for a check re leaks , no problems with it and all works great temperature wise, it is a 2005/06 model as far as I can see from the service history this is the first time any maintenance has been carried out on the system.

Not my car but a new (temporary for me) van... Ripped out the crappy traffic master sat nav that was bust and part fitted a hands free kit - rain currently stopped play but it's not going to see much any use this week anyway so left it in bits!

2hrs each way :(

Tomorrow, will attempt to adjust the times to avoid more traffic and plonkers who think 40mph is acceptable  >:(
