The new 2018 one will have the 3cylinder engine that cuts down to 2 when the 3rd is not needed :o.It will according to the figures published put out 200PS[whatever they are]There are 3 selectable driving modes Normal,Sport and Track, each one comes with what Ford term ESE-electronic sound enhancement-which alters the exhaust note for "enhanced"driving pleasure :D ;D
-
200PS is about 197bhp.

The latest 370z`s have that, which is just wrong in a 3.7l V6 car :(
It has to be disabled by a dealer too >:(

I always think of PS as German BHP. But our BHP is bigger than their PS. :)

Two pots? How’s that going to work without being rough as a bears arse? Flywheel the size of the London Eye?

Probably by firing any two of the three cylinders every rotation... :-\
-
I drove a 1.0 ecoboost fiesta today,64 plate and have to say it drove brilliantly,it would jump over my 1.6 focus from a few years earlier

People are used to diseasels these days. Anything's possible. ;)

The cylinder only shuts down when decelerating or under very low power rolling cruise requirement, as soon as you give it the slightness of gas increase it instantly switches back to normal.

They are great in the Fiesta, not so good in the Focus or Mondeo (which is a bonkers place to put them).
Have you tried the GM equivalent in the Corsa, much smoother and better power delivery (balance shafts etc. make a big difference)

But every fuel injected car for the last 25+ years has shut all cylinders down when decelerating?
So the only gain is very occasionally, when cruising, it pops another on off (isn't marketing great) :y

I've heard that the Vauxhall 3 pot is good but not tried one yet

Driven a 3 cylinder Dahatsiu surprisingly it went okay.

I wonder about the longevity of a small engine with a high specific output.
Great when new but.................. :(
-
Then again, engines that are looked after generally outlast the bodywork on modern cars (especially Fiestas!) so why not shift the balance back a little?

Customer of mine has just traded in his 04 Polo 1.4 tdi,290,00 miles done and engine still strong :y
-
Local Ford stealer has replaced two engines in nearly new Fiestas[both cars had service history and were still under warranty]this week alone.Mind you they've also replaced a powershift gearbox in a Galaxy under warranty too.

3 cylinders are good (IME aka Triumph Trident) with primary & secondary balance with 120o crankshaft spacing and all pistons changing direction at different times and 120o firing angle. I'm personally a big fan of 3-cylinder engines, even better are straight 6's (V6's so,so) and then we move on to V8's and especially V12's :) :) :) :y :y :y

Ignoring economy for a second, even in a Focus, the 1l turbo far better than the old 1.6l - but then that 1.6 (and the 1.8) were pretty rubbish, even in their day, for power.
Downside of the little turbo, is the economy is poor, because you have to rag the tits off it everywhere.

I must have been way ahead of my time as I've had a few 4 pots that'd cut to 3 regularly :D :D I did once-back in the '70s have a 3 pot motor. It was a Wartburg Knight estate 3cyl two stroke with a separate coil for each cylinder and a freewheel device on it :y

That must have been a real crumpet-catcher, Mr Baza. ;)
A haze of 2 stroke smoke must have followed you everywhere. :D
-
Not much of a crumpet catcher Opti, but being the estate once there they could be persuaded to linger a while :D :D :D ::) It could be encouraged to be fairly quick off the line, then people couldn't easily catch me as they were driving in a "fog" of blue smoke ;D ;D
