General Discussion Area / BT phone socket help ?
« on: 08 April 2016, 20:56:40 »
I have one BT phone socket in the house and lord knows why but its on the bedroom window sill.
I have a phone line and a wireless router plugged into it via a filter thingy.
To avoid paying BT £200 for the honour of a new socket, can I simply buy some extension cable with the right ends and install another socket in the hallway? or is there some snag to this?
Also would an extension of some 30-40ft in length have any detrimental effect on my broadband speed/performance?

Any advice much appreciated

 :) :)

General Discussion Area / Tickled me pink

As seen on Google news just now, thought it might be an April Fools joke but then realised that its the 1st tomorrow.

Swedish woman filed a police complaint after a rejected and vindictive suitor broke wind as he stormed out of her apartment, but police found no proof of intent - not a whiff - and dismissed the case.

The woman, a resident of the Laholm municipality in southern Sweden, told the online edition of daily Hallandsposten on Thursday that the man had been invited into her home for coitus.

Once inside she had a change of heart and turned him down. But before leaving, the disgruntled man left her with a malodorous memento.

"It smelled awful," she wrote in her police complaint, asking for a harassment charge to be pressed against the man, which would carry a fine or prison sentence of up to one year.

Swedish police decided however to drop the case.

"It's impossible to prove that he wanted to pass particularly smelly wind on purpose," said a spokesman for the local police, Kenneth Persson.

General Discussion Area / Bottled air anyone ?

Un-breathe-lievable! Dorset businessmen sells county's fresh air to Chinese for £80 a pop!
Chinese are buying Dorset's fresh air for £80 a pop. Text & pics BNPS
/ News
..Share    3 comments A CANNY Dorset businessman is making thousands of pounds out of selling bottled British air to the Chinese for a gasp-inducing £80 a go.

The smog-plagued elite of Beijing and Shanghai are snapping up the decanters from Leo De Watts who 'farms' fresh-air from the British countryside.

His team of air-gricultural workers put bottles in adapted fishing nets and hold them aloft as they stride through a muddy field to 'harvest' the product.

They then leave it open for up to 10 minutes to capture the area's aroma, but also ensure no grass or bugs get into the 'organic' product.

In just a few weeks of launching the barmy venture Mr De Watts, 27, has sold 180 580ml containers of breeze from Dorset, Somerset, Wales, Wiltshire and Yorkshire.

Once unbottled, the 'experience' of inhaling the fresh-air for the consumer lasts just a few seconds. People are also buying the breeze as a novelty gift that will never be opened.

I knew it had to happen someday, just thought it would have been the Labour party who did it first, and then sold it to us ?

Omega General Help / whats the best way to diagnose this fault ?
« on: 04 February 2016, 23:52:10 »
2003 2.2 CDX.
Everything works as it should, BUT once it gets to about 40mph there begins a low booming resonance accompanied by a slight vibration, which continues up to about 55mph and then appears to die away, although due to tyre and wind noise may just be muffled.
The steering wheel does not shake, it does not feel like wheel balance and it does not alter if I take left/right hand bends, if I am accelerating or on the overun, or if it is in neutral.
It does not happen if its parked and the engine is reved up.
So, possibly discounting wheel balance, wheel bearings, engine mounts, how do I go about diagnosing the rest of the moving parts?
What would you do asuming you could not crawl about under a car yourself !

General Car Chat / Ford transit lwb van
« on: 29 January 2016, 00:47:36 »
Does anyone know what the tread depth of a new Transit tyre is ?

My son has just had a 30,000 mile service on his 14 month old Transit van, and he still has 5mm left on his front tyres and 7mm on the rears.
I find this apparent lack of wear quite remarkable, unless he started off with about 16mm.
So whats with the lack of wear then guys, he isnt one to dawdle about.

Omega General Help / whats this likely to be then chaps ?
« on: 13 November 2015, 16:46:13 »
started up yesterday and drove down road and noticed the engine electronic/transmission electronic/immobilizer symbol was lit up.
Car appeared to be in limp mode and it soon became apparent it was not changing gear (automatic).
I think it was in3rd all the time but not sure, anyway I changed gear 'manually' and completed my short journey.
On restarting the light stayed on, so I switched off removed the key and tried again and this time it stayed off and car ran normally for the rest of day.
switched on today and started but light stayed on, so restarted and light now off and running fine.
what shall I start worrying about first please chaps
Thank you.

Omega General Help / Compatible parts?
« on: 07 November 2015, 21:52:16 »
My recently deceased 2002 2.2Dti has to go to its final resting place shortly, and I was wondering if I can use any of the following bits on my 'new' 2003 2.2 CDX.

1, thermostat
2, alternator
3, 70amp battery

Also are there any other easily removable bits that you would keep for spares, or aint it worth the bother ?

cheers

Omega General Help / Correct tyre size?
« on: 28 October 2015, 22:50:16 »
Am I right in thinking that the correct tyre size for a 2003 2.2 petrol estate is
225/55/16 ?
And as an estate what other numbers do I need to look for as far as minimum ratings are concerned?

General Car Chat / scrapping a car?
« on: 28 October 2015, 22:44:34 »
I was wondering, lots of you guys have sold parts of your cars for spares, and in many cases there must have been a lot of it missing when the time came to dispose of the remainder.
Do scrap dealers still come and take the rest away or do you have to pay them, as they have very little left to make any money on.
Was just wondering if its worth messing about with selling bits or not see?
