Key refurbished
« on: 04 August 2023, 10:46:02 »

The Range Rover came with 2 keys when I purchased it one was extremely worn & the other had never been used, I have always used the perfect one keeping the other as a spare. I recently saw an advertisement on the Land Rover forum so sent the tatty one off , it arrived back this morning looking like new only £25.

I'm always wary of sending a key off for repair and providing the address where you live / car is parked to them.

Fortunately been able to refurbish my own in the past, which reminds me, need to re-case the spare BMW key.

.

I thought so , I think a new one is a couple of hundred quid so I'm happy with the repair all done in 48 hours.

If it disappears off the drive in the next few days you'll know if it was a bad idea or not.  ;D

If its the usual JLR 5 button one - though not sure your yours is a bit early for that type, an new shell is £10 from the dealer, and another £10 for the chrome bit.  And about 2 mins to swap it all over.

So for £5.00 I've saved myself a lot of faffing about, that's excellent

Well, I'd be impressed if you wore out the chrome bit.  So 2 mins of simple faffage to save £15....

But as said, your key might not be that style, and never looked at prices for other types.

I picked up a new, non genuine, passive entry keyless start fob + blade for mine for £25, but did need to be programmed in.

I didn't wear any of it out , I've never used it because it was in a very shabby condition when I got the vehicle, all my post was about was that I was pleased about the service I received, for a very reasonable cost.

Afraid I'm the same, can't be arsed doing stuff if I can pay someone to do it. And £25 is neither here nor there.
Jaime, I reckon £25 is less than you'd spend on a curry for one  ;D

Specifically to Rangie (and STEMO), I guess it was the way I was brought up, Dad always drummed into us, look after the pennies, the pounds will then look after themselves....

...and remember in my late teens I had a financially hard, although rewarding, life, when I was earning under £35 a week and the emergency accommodation I'd managed to secure costing £30 a week.

So that's why is something is simple and within my capabilities, I'll keep that £15 :)

And unlike the previous generation in particular, no gold plated pension for me...

For me it's simply a guy trying to make a living , he asked for a picture of the key fob and asked what was wrong with it ? All working but split & shabby looking quoted me a price including postage ( tracked) which I considered very reasonable ,he's running a business trying to earn a living simple as that. I've also been skint but soon learned how to get out of that position simply advice & common sense.

We've all been skint. In my case, desperately skint. But it's all relevant, you have to keep up with what things cost, or you end up like grandad having a sharp intake of breath every farts end. I do the shopping in our house, and when 24 rolls of Asda own brand bog rolls come in at over ten quid, you soon realise that £25 buys less than fûck all.

Yep....there are things and jobs I could afford to pay for yet I prefer to do it myself.... (f*uck it up for myself) :)

Something like a shagged toaster/cooker/washing machine/ lawn mower/shower  etc..etc I will always take it apart and can usually get it working again.

Whatever I save I spend wisely on alcohol. :)
