TV Adds - Charities

Please Delete This Thread if I am in the wrong with posting it.

I am all for charities and what they offer, Over the years I have volountered and helped out at 3 different ones.

Some of the charites pull on the heart strings. Blind dogs etc

Some adds are getting out of hand (My personal oppinion)

People offer to help for free, people helping the RNLI and local Fire Services make thier selves avalable 24/7 and risk thier own lives in the process.

But what gets to me is them asking for specific ammounts each month, some offer feedback from the children and post cards about how the animals are doing.  Sorry, Spend all the money looking after them instead.  If I give money I prefer to pay what I want and when I want but want it to go to the ones that the charity is actually for.

When you hear some of the CEO's are getting upwards of £150K P.A. thats a heck of a lot of monthly donations before donations get to the intended.

When I was 16 there was an article in the paper that 83% of donations were towards "Overheards" at Dr Banardoes.

I donate, by direct debit, to the charities I want to. I ignore tv campaigns and chuggers.

We do exactly the same here , direct debit to the ones we support, and neither of them resort to tugging on the heartstrings via TV ads.

It has now become a sector of the economy, an industry. Good career prospects are to be found there for people with the right friends / attitudes / qualifications etc.
Most of it has little if anything to do with helping those in real need.
Have a look at the jobs on the Trussel Trust website just as one example.

Small local animal charities would be my favourites.
