Which keyfob do I need??
« on: 20 September 2007, 22:53:19 »

98 'S' Elite...  Not too sure which fob I need?!?!

The one which came with the car resembles this one...

BUT I'm sure I remember reading there are 2 types of RF fob for the pre-facelift, and that the later 'mini' facelifts need this one??

Now I know my old 98 'R' Omega had the fob with the square buttons, and was a mini facelift.  It also had one which was the rounder buttons like the one I have now, which vaux said couldnt be coded to the car...

So which one do I get hold of??

Look on the rear and see if you cn read the word Megamos, even better, pop the lid off and read the make from the PCB inside.

Mine has both! The top one is original, same as my 99 Astra, but there was only one key with the car to start with but got the supplying dealer to get another key as part of the deadl - hence the newer type too.

Hi
Also got 1998 Elite & key with car as top picture.  Have fob square buttons like 2nd picture - synced this and it locks/unlocks car.  Now got new horseshoe blade for this fob - to be cut and transponder set up for my car (Tech2 job).
Both types of fob seem to work ok - both are Megamos
Hope this helps!

Yes, buy the remote and transponder from ebay, check th make of your existing one so you can match the make up. Remember that you CANT tell the make from the shape of teh key.

Then get a blade cut and the transponder and remote programmed to the car using tech 2.....
