Title: which brand do you recommend?
Post by: jimjimanta on 24 April 2024, 16:58:59
I want to change the front lights.
which brand is recommended?
From abakus , TYC , John's autoteile , diederichs ...
have you noticed differences between them or are they all the same?

also I find the shock absorbers TRW at a good price... and I'm thinking of installing them. where is your knowledge?

I used Depo lights on mine to good effect, but you perhaps have to rework some elements to fit the xenon ballast holders..

I suspect other cheaper alternatives will be less good. And make sure they are like for like as there are several variations.

TRW shocks probably OK, but first choice would be Sachs. Also, it would be sensible to go through the entire suspension if you're doing the front shocks. Rear shocks can be changed independently of anything else but again the springs, track rods and rear subframe mounts would be a good idea whilst you're at it.

Partly depends on why you feel the need to change the shocks...

mine doesn't have xenon.
My omega is a 1998 model and had a face lift.
but the headlights from the traffic lights don't shine well.
I plan to change them but not sure which brand of the ones I mentioned.

I had fitted Bilstein shocks but they had little life.
I find trw shocks half price from sachs. 33 euros each.
I think they are worth a try.

For rear shocks, you've €33 to lose. For fronts, because of the work involved, don't cut too many corners. Sachs are what it left the factory with. But it depends what problem you are trying to fix as weak springs or failing subframe bushes may cause similar handling symptoms.

If it's just bulbs, I find Osram bulbs to be strong performers.

The headlight lenses can be polished back to a level of usefulness.

A 1998 omega should have the clear, MFL headlight lenses, which if they have gone cloudy, can be polished back with wet and dry, or one of those 3M headlight polishing kits that fit in a drill (which makes it easy).

OSRAM Nightbreakers or Phillips Vision Plus are good, decent halogen bulbs.

Worth cleaning up the area where the 0V is attached to the chassis, as if that is a bit corroded, it will impact the lights.

TRW are owned by ZF, who also own Sachs Boge, so they could well be the same shocks as the Sachs
