Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: power cable and rcas

Dave is absolutely right (it is his line of work after all!!  ;)), and I don't mean this offensively, but to run any amp let alone a 400w amp from the cigarette lighter feed is like lighting a slow fuse to a can of petrol under the car!

As other have said, run the power cable through the passenger bulkhead and intot the car behind the glovebox. the big rubber grommits have enough room to allow up to 4 gauge cable through.
Just make sure you fuse it as close to the battery as possible (ie no more than 6 inches).

Disconnect the bonnet sensor.... that will probably stop it.

Personally I would ignore anything that was originally fitted as it will be hopelessly out of date.

If you want hands free, you have 2 real choices.

1. Parrot kit. CK3200 in particular. Around £90
Easy to fit, and very good sound quality. No cutting of wires, just plugs into the loom.

2. Good quality hands free bluetooth headset.
Best on the market is the Jawbone. Around £70
Amazing noise cancelling system means people hear your voice and nothing else around you.
I have one and it is astonishing.

TB. What about the de-pairing of the 2015 unit?

I know if you do remove it (correctly of someone that will be interested in buying it off you. :)

Oh and the DEH-P9600MP is a lovely unit. I had the DEH-P8600MP in an Omega. Fantastic sound!

Ok, first test.

Just switch the ignition on. The battery light should be on. If it isn't then bulb has gone.

Now check the voltage across the battery. It shoulf be around 13.6-14.v

Let us know the reading.

Also check the wiring as Kev has said. If a terminal is getting hot then it has a poor contact and will cause the problems.

Finally, I have trade club so can get you the battery for around £40.

Updgrading is well worth it, but I would be a little less dedicated than Martin has been in doing his. :)

Good quality headunit is the starting point. Ideally with 3 sets of pre-outs (makes sorting sub crossover easier as you can control it there rather than the amp). In normal market that means Alpine or Pioneer. They produce quality equipment.

Use the current speakers and wiring from loom to sepakers (rerouting with new wire is a git of a job!!) The standard speakers are very good and really do respond well to being amped sensibly.

Add a good 4 channel amp (4x30w rms is fine and painfully loud). Alpine V12 series are highly recommended.

Most importantly, high pass the signal to the main speakers and add a sub. This makes a HUGE difference to the sound (the fun comes with getting the crossover just right so it blends in perfectly with the rest of the sound).

It is a good full days work doing it from scratch but the results are well worth it!

Mio C510E. Best £199 I spent (bought it Xmas 2006). :)

Full UK mapping and full Europe on DVD ready to be transferred to SD card.

Great mapping software and excellent instructions. Full speed camera locations included automatically.

Ok it gets things wrong occasionally (they all do) but it is better than anything else I have used (especially Tomtoms).

I don't do the same as Dave ;) but I echo his comments.

Don't go to all this trouble. It is not worth it and if not done right, could trash you good headunit.

The OEM equipment (unless Bose) is not very good and the aftermarket unit will be hugely better.

If it is a DVD player then you have the capability of storing more on 1 disc than a normal 10 disc changer!
MP3/WMA is the way to go there (and no arguments about difference in sound quality, this is a car we are talking about ;) )

I honestly see no benefit whatsoever in keeping the original equipment in there.

Not sure about the fuse... but you have checked the power supply is plugged in haven't you?

It can be a "tight" fit back there with the wiring, but it will fit.

What headunit are you trying to fit in there?

They do fit, there is space down and left for the big block connector.

Being a facelift it will have either HIDs (if you had these you would not be complaining!) or projectors (you have an aim adjuster below the headlight switch?).

Bulb upgrading is the best option. Go for a pair of Osram Nightbreakers (+90%). Getting excellent reviews. :)

If you are putting another double DIN headunit in then I can confirm space will be rather tight... ;)

As for the Basslink, it is excellent and was far better than I expected.
The reivews are pretty much universally positive too.

With regards to the sub.
I would recommend either a sealed 10" or even a pair of 8" subs. This will give you a must faster and tighter bass response, but being a sealed unit, will need more power to achieve the same eefect as a ported unit (sealed takes up a whole lot less space though).

Other option is a compact "active" (built in amp) sub. The best of these being the Infinity Basslink (damn good, used to have one) or the Vibe CBR units.
The Infinity is the more compact of the units and can be flat or vertically mounted.
