General Car Chat / Starting issue
« on: Today at 16:54:05 »
This is on my step daughters 2001 Volvo C70 with a 2.4 low pressure turbo petrol engine and manual gearbox.Sometimes it will start straight away but most of the time the engine will turn over and occasionally "lock up" [as though a cylinder is flooded]for a split second before continuing to turn over.Once it does start it ticks over evenly and revs cleanly driving exactly as it should.Reading the codes with a cheap reader brought up P0014[cam timing advanced]but the car shows none of the running issues associated with that code. The rear [exhaust?] cam has a hub [vvt?]on it.We've fitted a new crank sensor to no avail .When cranking the rev counter needle will at times flick from zero to about 2,500 revs before instantly dropping back to zero but it doesn't do this with any regularity.Firing the parts cannon at it is not an affordable option. Any ideas as to where/what to look at? TIA.

Inundated.

When my Omega[a 3.0 V6] had the same issue it was the crankshaft sensor, and apparently this doesn't always throw a code.

Cheeky sod VXL  :P I'll have you know I've never bought a car brand new and nor will I ever do so! I have however had a brief[about 10 miles]drive of a Model T some years ago which was an "interesting" experience.

I remember the Cortina[and so many more]being launched-Consul Classic,Consul Capri,Triumph herald,Mini to name a few. :-X

Sighted.

Checked gearbox oil level and engine oil level on step daughters C70 as there seems to be a slight leak from somewhere with a trace of oil at the bottom of the bellhousing/engine joint. Both levels ok though. While there also fitted a new crank sensor and a new power steering fluid reservoir to it.

Thanks to TB for the thread move :y Yes solid rear discs on mine[weren't the vented rears only on the 3.2 and possibly 2.6?] Must admit I've not yet delved too deeply into this so it could be the slider pins, thanks for the suggestion and also dimensions.
