Title: One for Mr Beanz
Post by: BazaJT on 18 September 2019, 18:21:48
All the beans used for baked beans are imported into the country, however the University of Warwick are harvesting the first ever crop of such beans grown in this country. The signs so far -although further testing is required to see how they fare in the canning process etc-are positive. So pretty soon we could go some way towards being more self sufficient-at least as far as baked beans go :y

Where will we grow them?  We are destroying our countryside in order to build houses, useless rail projects and warehousing.

As ever, the solution to being more self sufficient is the cull ;)

Yep TB I can see where you're coming from.An ever increasing population needing more housing, the demand for ever more roads and a belief that somehow HS2 will be some sort of saviour instead of an expensive white elephant[can I say white these days :D]on an ever shrinking[due to coastal erosion]island and something certainly has to give.

Whilst I accept they are not the caviar that a Lord like you lives on, if you're going to eat a bean, it has to be Beanz. They are by far the best baked beans by some margin.  And given that I singlehandedly keep Heinz going, I do consider myself a bean connoisseur

I usually buy at around 30-40p per can, unless a supermarket has an offer on.

Much, much better than the Branson (slightly dearer) and supermarket brands (cheaper), that I wouldn't even give to a foodbank.

There are standard Beanz. Beanz with those nasty sausages in (but go well on a baked spud, or on toast). Beanz with the chilli beans in.  And that's it. End of.

Wrong. Standard beans are just Beanz.  I care not for the recipe, as long as my Beanz Meanz Heinz.

We used to have butterbeans (the proper, soaked overnight ones) with boiled bacon and new potatoes. I seem to remember enjoying them, but that was probably over 50 years ago. Our family was quite poor, and us kids ate everything that was put in front of us.

It pays to advertise......the old saying goes. And Heinz spend more on promoting their 'soggy mush' than just about anybody else.

In blind tests ( apart from those run by Heinz themselves ) Heinz Beanz rarely finish in the top 3 and are usually outperformed by much cheaper beans.

But that is the very nature of advertising, it works best on the most impressionable and suggestible. :)

Beanz is beanz. They all taste much the same to me. :)

If Heinz can produce 'magic beans' that result in  a huge beanstalk with a pot of gold at the top, I might consider paying the extra. :)

I wouldn't feed them to a dog.

I foolishly bought a tray of them when Beanz were out of stock.  I tried 2 cans on the off chance the first was off, but they tasted just like Tesco Value 9p per can ones.  The dustmen took the other 22 cans away.

Branson has knocked Heinz down to third in many taste tests undertaken since they were launched, and even more so since the latter changed the recipe for their product. That is backed up by an ex-Heinz baked bean fan who since early childhood insisted on nothing but Heinz.  Then Heinz changed the recipe and he, now 25 years old, now hates them and favours the great taste of the Branston offering ;D ;D ;)

If Branson was the only beans available, I'd eat more veg. A lot more veg.  I certainly wouldn't be eating that shit again ;)

So Mr Beanz had better keep all the machines running.
