Post by: T-rev on 22 November 2009, 16:21:59
hello, anyone had to change their wiperblade mechanism? had the passenger side ball joint go and come off & athough easy to pop back on i do feel i should look to renew the bar that links the 2, or even renew the whole lot. any help would be much apprecieted as it looks fairly awkward, especially the drivers side. cost???? :)

Never done this on an Omega but did this once on a Rover 800 on the hard shoulder! The problem I found was once the rods fall off, they are a slack fit and won't last much longer.

It is an easy job - just difficult to get at.

Whole wiper assembly comes out easily so get the whole lot from a breaker, give each ball joint a dab of grease and a clean and refit. :y

As Kevin says. IIRC there are 4 hexagon headed self tappers holding it all in place. While you have the 'new' assembly in your hands, give the 13mm nut between the motor & linkage a little tweak, it can come loose & leave the wipers mid-stoke!  :-?  :y  :y
