Light problem
« on: 02 February 2015, 19:47:33 »

Hi all im having some problems with my lights.

1 when the lights are off and I press the break peddle the passenger side light keeps coming on and I get check headlight/taillight on the display

2 when the lights are on the light bar on the back window keeps flashing and I get check break light on the display, and sometimes there's a clicking noise, which sounds like its somewhere under the auto gear box consul area.

has anybody any idea what's causing this, and how to rectify the problem.

Thanx John

+1  :y and check bulb holders too--for corrosion - can cause all sorts of light related issues  :y

And make sure you've not got a stop/tail bulb fitted incorrectly ;)

had a look this morning and I can see any water ingress in the rear light clusters, had the bulb holders out cant see any corrosion but gave them a quick clean anyway, will let you know if anything has changed when ive been to work :y

Surely you mean minims :-\ ;D ;)
I've had similar, it was water ingress in the nearside rear light unit where the seal had come away :y

Short in the wiring to the boot lid? Or if towbar fitted, an issue within the towbar wiring...

Could it be the break light switch under the pedal causing the problem

Clicking under gear selector is perfectly normal... the shifter has a brake interlock on it... try shifting out of Park without pressing the brake pedal ;)

The other issue suggests either an earth fault at the nearside rear light or an incorrect bulb... on the estate, the stop/tail bulb isn't a standard fitment, the pins are offset both vertically and horizontally...

Should be   O      not -O- when viewed end on from the contact end.

Does the side light flash with the indicator on? If yes, definitely an earth issue  that cluster, if not then buy the correct bulb from Vauxhall :y
