Interesting.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport/day-jack-sears-hit-185mph-m1-motorway

Not in the same speed league, but very early 70s I had an old Austin Westminster. 3 Litre, straight 6. Tank of a thing (think B&W TV detective programmes).
First time I drove over 100mph M1. No reason for the journey, just a "drive". 110MPH. I remember it well. A bit terrifying.

I'd imagine the suspension was designed for comfort rather than speed!  ;D

It was like driving an armchair

Speed or don't speed, but don't blame the satnav for not paying attention to the road markings and signage.

No sympathy here. But you've learnt two things:

Your satnav cannot/should not be relied upon.

£100 and three points is pretty light for a 'stupid tax'.

Never, even assuming that it is updated frequently.

Ah well, join the club
I've been done a few times. Did one "awareness course" which wasn't as bad as I was expecting and I did learn stuff.
My biggest p***off was 34 in a 30 by a mobile camera
My most deserved was 107 on the M4 on my way to see my dying dad. No ban, but 6 points and a fine.

Flying is too cheap. Back in the 80s & 90s I used to travel a lot, particularly to the USA.

Since then with inflation etc pretty much everything has increased significantly in price, just compare most 80's prices with today. But not air fares, very little difference. It's not good business sense. People expect to fly across the World for peanuts, and get free food, drink, baggage etc. It's quite ridiculous that flying is often cheaper than taking the train. And, the airline industry can say what it likes, flying aluminium tubes around at 37,000ft burning tons of aviation fuel is NOT eco friendly.

Yes I fly, and I'm just as tight arsed as anyone else. But let's not be surprised when companies go bust.

I’ll tell you what really pissed me off today.

I was following a 2016 Jag. XF I think.

Big, wide road. Excellent visibility. Dry. Not frozen. No notable hazards.

He was doing 45. In a national. Pretty sure he had kids in the car.

Safe as houses to do so, so I went for an overtake. Went out first for a look, confirmed it was definitely safe and “on”, and committed.

The @rsehole floored it, trying to leave me stuck out on the wrong side of the road. Took his speed from 45, up to significantly higher.

No match for the 4.4 V8, so I also kicked it down and continued to pass. In all honesty I was over the speed limit by the time I came back in, so I eased back to 60.

He spent the next 2 miles glued to my bumper, so close, that I could only just see his lights.

Why do people drive so slowly, and the get SO butthurt when people then go around them?

I hadn’t been close to him, I just patiently waited for a decent overtaking spot and took it.

Wrist shakers.

Partly why I have a dashcam in both cars in our house. One of them front & rear facing. Not that expensive to do these days.

Just for info, my local price for 20Kg bag of Ovoids is £12. No delivery, collection only. Last year they were £8.

How long does that last Rog?  ???

So many variables. The big one is whether it's kept going 24 hours a day or just fired up when required. Also, if you intend using it to cook then higher temperatures needed, so more fuel usage. During last year price has jumped from £8 to £12 per 20kg bag. Quite a jump. In my old cold stone built house the kitchen is in the centre with master bedroom above, my purpose is simply local heat. I used to reckon a bag a week, kept low at night.

Our Rayburn has been out of order for almost a year due to a boiler leak, and trying to get someone to fix it is a nightmare. But, where I live getting anyone to do anything is a nightmare. Now considering replacement. Maybe one of these

A slight deviation so apologies to the OP, but I'm mulling fitting a woodburner/multi fuel and was checking out the prices of logs and coal the other day.

A local coal merchant had a notice on it's website that said that due to new regulations they are only allowed to deliver coal in open bags. Coal or smokeless oval/briquettes that are delivered in sealed plastic bags will have the bags slit open on delivery to comply with the regulations.   ::)

What's that about?  ???  :-\

That's peculiar , I'd be asking the supplier for a source of the regulations that state that requirement .
Over here in IE real black coal is unavailable and we are forced to burn the smokeless ovals .
These cost €35 a bag (£32ish) real coal was quoted to me at €46 a 40KG bag when it was believed that it would be available .  :o
Initially I was OK burning the smokeless stuff but during the recent cold snap I broke into my stash of real coal that I kept and was amazed at the difference of heat between the two.
The stove fans run at turbo speed when burning the real stuff but sort of tick over on the ovals .
I'm burning Ash timber at present so the output from the stoves is still acceptable .
My coal supplier is a good friend and he has told me that there is no available black coal but he believes that it has been withdrawn from the market using the Energy Crisis as a reason/excuse but it is actually been forced on IE by the EU to get us to comply with their emmissions target that IE has failed to meet year upon year .
I have noticed much more of the tell tale smell of peat /turf being burned as locals turn to suppliers who have decided to ignore the countrywide ban on turf cutting .
There is genuine hardship down here amongst the elderly who live on a single pension is houses that are old and inadaquetly insulated.
But hey , they may be cold but they're saving the planet ........

Interesting. I'm in the process of maybe replacing or maybe repairing our ancient solid fuel Rayburn.

I came across this . . . .

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/selling-coal-for-domestic-use-in-england

It's unclear if this covers what are called "Ovoids" which are permitted in my area. I'm not sure what they mean by "traditional house coal" I think this is the lumps of stuff as it comes from the ground. I now need to find out if any of this affects the Ovoids that are widely available.

I have gas water and central heating but I like the idea of additional solid fuel when you know exactly what you're spending and using. Yes, I know it's very un-trendy and frowned upon, but I like having an independent source of energy.

I can't be arsed to read every response on this.

Unfortunately we live in an age where it's all about moral point-scoring. Everyone and every news outlet is looking for something to get outraged about according to political direction.

I'm not denying that he was on  the fiddle. Maybe, maybe not. I don't know. But as the saying goes "Let he that is without sin cast the first stone".

I have quite a dislike of of politicians on all sides of the House. If they were any good at anything they wouldn' be there, they'd be doing something useful. Why be a career politician? because you're not good at anything else.

I sometimes think that the whole game is about who's best at covering stuff up. (BTW, why was Nick Brown suspended?)

.....Volume, tone and four preset buttons is plenty good enough.  :D

We have been using the out-laws Citroen C4 Spacetourer (used to be Picasso) ... there's hardly a proper button on the entire car. It just has a silly touch screen that does radio, sat-nav, phone, vehicle settings & something else I can't remember. It has the most uninspiring instrumentation ever.

I'm curious.

With the upcoming changes to the highway code etc, would operating such a device become illegal?

I'm thinking of getting the newest diesel I can afford to see me out until I have to give up driving  ::) Pretty sure that fuel will still be available for some time after that
