Omega General Help / Re: Display Won't Go Out
« on: 19 January 2020, 18:50:03 »
Had the same on my 95 mv6. Did a lot of trial and error before i figured it out. Display gets signal from radio to switch on. But since the radio is off the date just dissapears and all you see is blank screen. I found in mine that there is a line from radio to display that is powered by the radio. This turns the display on. This line also goes to the aerial amplifier to switch that on when radio comes on. Took the radio out and measured that line and found that It was powered even with radio removed sometimes. So something that got constant power is shorted to the radio/display/aerial amp line. Central locking system was my first guess so checked the wiring to the tailgate(estate) which was cracked but didnt cause the issues. Finally traced it down to the cable tray in the front passenger floor. (LHD car). A lot of wires down there in wet floor insulation. Central locking cables and antenna power were corroded. Cut ut wires, soldered in new and insulated and problem went away.

Try pushing/holding your current light switch firmly against the dash to see if the light goes out.

Had the same once. In my case it was the main light switch. Even though it was pushed in lights were on unless i held pressure on it. Solution was to change main light switch.

Omega General Help / Re: Electric windows drivers side
« on: 23 December 2019, 18:22:43 »
If the window(s) worked when shutting it with the help of the key the motors and mechanism is probably OK. I would suspect the switches. Do the rear window work when operated with the switch in the rear door? You dont mention the age of your Omega but in my experience the pre facelift with switches in the centre console do occasionaly require the switches to be taken apart and cleaned. Especially in cars that are smoked in as the switches lives very close to the ashtray. But i have never experienced that two windows stopped working. Usually its one. And usually it will work in one direction. Both rear windows share one fuse, and both front share another fuse.
Switches or wiring to switches would be my guess.

A 97 car will probably have the telltale light which shows the fogs are on in the switch itself. Later ones had it in the instrument i think. Led which indicates fogs on are part of the circuit board on the main light switch. Also there are two types og fog switches. The old type with a clear square for the indication light and the new type without this. With fog switches renoved you should be able to see if there are leds on the circuit board on the main switch.

Omega General Help / Re: Bad idling in the morning
« on: 10 October 2019, 12:47:08 »
Tank is plastic. And it wont blow as its no pressure in it. Its vaccuum. If the venting system dont work there wont be any air going into the tank as the petrol pump sucks petrol out. This will cause a vaccuum and the tank could cave in in the middle as the pump keeps sucking fuel. Releasing the petrol cap will allow air to enter the tank as the pump sucks fuel out. Very doubtful that the tank will actually break as the pump will eventually give up when the underpressure gets to strong. In my case filling the tank back up made it pop back into its original shape.

Dont think its pressure in the tank. Its probably vaccum. Air rushes in to the tank when the cap is opened. The fuel pump on one of our estates sucked the tank flat when the tank venting system failed. As a test and temporary solution try running with the fuel cap loose. Just fasten it enough so it wont fall of but not so much that it seals. If problem dissapears then you got a problem with the venting/purge system for the tank.

Omega General Help / Re: sunroof leaking.
« on: 06 October 2019, 15:38:20 »
Park the car with the front upwards and carefully pour some water in the sunroof gutter each side and check if water comes out behind each rear wheel, then turn car around so the rear is highest and repeat procedure at the front and see if water comes out by each front wheel.
Also next time it leaks check if the entire sunroof glass is wet. If there is a rust hole in the floor and the carpets and insulation is wet the moisture will condensate on the sunroof and drip from there even though the sunroof itself is perfectly fine.

And used unit will probably do fine. Since the newer type seems very reliable.

Dont know that partnumber. Checked now and the part i bought for my 1995 estate is GM 90451202. Sedan might be GM 90460934.

Thanks will do. Car seems OK for now but nice to have original part if problem should return. Kept the original faulty sensor. Noticed it was manufactured by Siemens.

Bulb control unit lives on the sidewall inside the dash where the a pillar meets the dashboard. Remove the cardboard under the dash driver side and its way up at the top above the fusebox clipped to the sidewall/a pillar. At least on lhd cars. Dont know about rhd cars but would assume it to be on driver side there to.

I had this some years ago on a 1995 Omega. On mine the headlught/taillight warning would be on constant with the headlights turned on. Changed bulbs, cleaned connectors and checked wiring but could never figure it out. Finally i found some Opel/Vauxhall service manual for Omega B online which had a service bulletin stating that on some early cars when customer complained about headlight/taillight warning and all lights worked fine the solution was to swap the light warning module to a newer type. Early cars seemed to have a more unreliable warning module. Bought one of eBay and swapped it over. Problem went away for me and never came back.

Changed the cam sensor today. Eml went out and car ran fine on the test drive:) So now all is well again. I know its not recommended but i fitted a sensor from an aftermarket supplier. Not the super cheap eBay type, but from one of Norways biggest chain of aftermarket parts and independent garages. Checked with the Opel dealer first but part with rectangular connector was discontinued. They would sell me the oval connector part for 280£ and an adapter loom to make it fit the car for an extra 120£. Must be ordered from Germany. Didnt like the price and could not wait for that long. Hopefully the aftermarket sensor will keep working for some time.
